Job description

The Software Systems & Controls Engineer Leads development, upkeep, and integration of the department's software systems and controls. This position is responsible for ensuring both our industry standard and our proprietary project-management platforms are efficient, compliant, and continually refined to eliminate waste and enhance team productivity. As a key team member, they ensure complex systems are delivered on schedule and meet the highest quality standards. Their duties involve crafting, maintaining, and reporting on maintenance and development roadmaps while collaborating closely with internal and external stakeholders to track progress, evaluate deviations, flag risks, and recommend or implement mitigations or corrective actions. The role demands advanced analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills, coupled with deep expertise in project controls processes and tools.

Role and Responsibilities

Here's What You'll Be Responsible For:

  • Own continuous-improvement cycles for our software portfolio
  • Identify process redundancies & implement workflow automation across tools
  • Serve as the main stakeholder for the proprietary project-management platform, ensuring user guidance and configuration documentation are up to date
  • Coordinate real-time updates, feature requests, and migrations with Dev & Architecture teams
  • Partner with IT Strategy, Finance, and Compliance to align policy and technical strategy
  • Lead system-related escalations and manage stakeholder communication
  • Champion data handling, security, and compliance across applications
  • Spearhead internal audits & remediation focused on system readiness
  • Analyze project-control methods and develop system-based solutions
  • Translate business needs into technical specifications and status reports
  • Oversee software licensing, subscription renewals, and subscription management
  • Documentation is managed as a supportive function, ensuring all SOPs, change logs, and release notes are version-controlled and accessible

Core Job Functions

  • Establish a Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) maintaining requirements, design, and test artifacts in a shared, version-controlled repository
  • Automate workflow packages by designing and deploying approvals and release processes in their designated systems
  • Create a process improvement log to capture, approve, and publish changes to existing workflows
  • Provide a system availability report to provide uptime metrics, incident summaries, and post-mortem analyses
  • Create an integration & technology matrix to document new tech adoptions and their impact
  • Implement a stakeholder dashboard used to deliver status dashboards and actionable insights
  • Vendor & License Tracking maintaining a clear view of renewals and related obligations

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years in systems management, project controls, or a comparable role
  • Proven experience managing enterprise-grade software tools and aligning them with business objectives
  • Proficient with project-management platforms, including MS Project, Primavera, Jira, Confluence, and other custom solutions
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (macros, dashboards, pivot tables), PowerPoint, and Word
  • Experienced with data-visualization tools such as Power BI and Tableau
  • Hands-on with SDLC practices, API integration, SQL, Python/PowerShell, and version-control tools
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001/ISO/IEC 27001 processes is a plus, but not required

Mandatory Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:

  • Ability to dissect complex workflows, identify bottlenecks, and design scalable solutions
  • Deep understanding of software engineering practices, databases, and integration patterns
  • Strong grasp of legal, regulatory, and security requirements; ability to translate them into system architecture
  • Proven communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience leading cross-functional projects, defining timelines, and managing budgets
  • Quick diagnosis of system issues; proactive mitigation of risks

Preferred Soft Skills and Experience:

  • Exceptional prioritization, organization, and multitasking capabilities
  • Demonstrated ability to build consensus among IT, finance, and compliance teams
  • Background in predictive analytics, machine learning, or data-science for project control
  • Self-starter capable of working with minimal supervision
  • Track record of coaching junior and assisting senior level stakeholders
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment

Benefits & conditions

The current base salary range for this role is between $70,480 - $179,090. Individual base pay rates will depend on factors including duties, work location, education, skills, qualifications and experience. Total compensation for this position will include a competitive benefits package and may include participation in company incentive compensation programs, which are based on factors to include organizational and individual performance.
