- Lead the end-to-end design and implementation of complex features and systems
- Drive architectural decisions and guide the evolution toward target-state architecture
- Evaluate and recommend scalable, secure solutions for complex engineering challenges
- Identify performance bottlenecks and implement optimization strategies
- Ensure systems are resilient, maintainable, and aligned with long-term platform strategy, * Build reusable components and design patterns that elevate the broader engineering organization
- Balance feature velocity with technical debt reduction, secure coding, and design system adoption
- Elevate engineering standards through thoughtful code reviews and best practices
- Improve development processes within and across squads
- Leverage deep system knowledge to troubleshoot and resolve incidents effectively
Execution & Team Leadership
- Lead delivery of complex initiatives across multiple development cycles
- Coordinate work across engineers and proactively remove technical blockers
- Drive agile ceremonies and foster high-performing team dynamics
- Continuously improve team productivity, quality, and delivery predictability
- Balance speed and quality without compromising technical integrity, * Mentor engineers and cultivate technical growth within the team
- Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions in partnership with Product
- Communicate architectural trade-offs and constraints clearly to stakeholders
- Represent Engineering in cross-functional planning and strategic discussions
- Partner closely with Information Security and Compliance teams to ensure regulatory alignment
Requirements
We're looking for a Senior Application Engineer to play a critical role in designing, building, and evolving the core applications that power our platform. This is a senior-level position for a hands-on technical leader who thrives on solving complex challenges, shaping architectural direction, and mentoring others.
You'll own significant application domains, influence strategic technical decisions, and deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing solutions that directly impact thousands of financial advisors. - Strong command of software architecture patterns, microservices, and API design
- Proven experience with scalability, reliability, and performance optimization
- Advanced knowledge of database design, data modeling, and query optimization
- Hands-on experience with cloud-native architectures and DevOps practices
- Strong understanding of security best practices, especially in regulated environments
Leadership & Impact
- Demonstrated ability to influence architectural direction and technical strategy
- Experience mentoring engineers and elevating team capabilities
- Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Ownership mindset with a bias toward action and accountability, * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
- 5-8 years of progressive software engineering experience
- Experience leading complex, cross-functional application initiatives
- Strong background in agile development environments
- Experience in wealth management, fintech, or other regulated industries preferred
Benefits & conditions
Compensation: The Base Salary range for this position is between $138,000-$173,000.
This information reflects a base salary range that AssetMark reasonably expects to pay for the position based on a number of factors which may include job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and actual work location.
