Job description
The Warehouse Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and improving material flow processes across warehouse operations. This role ensures efficient use of storage space, smooth staging operations, streamlined return-to-stock processes, and compliance with safety and inspection standards for racking systems. The Warehouse Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams including Industrial Engineering, Production, and Logistics to optimize warehouse efficiency, reduce handling waste, and enhance overall operational performance.
What will you do?
- Material Flow Optimization: Analyze and improve the movement of materials through racks, staging areas, and storage locations to minimize bottlenecks and increase efficiency.
- Rack & Storage Design: Develop and implement racking layouts that maximize capacity while ensuring accessibility, safety, and compliance with standards.
- Staging & Return-to-Stock Processes: Create and refine processes for staging materials, kitting, and returning items to stock with a focus on speed, accuracy, and cost reduction.
- Racking Inspections: Conduct and document regular racking inspections to ensure structural integrity, safety compliance, and preventive maintenance.
- Process Development: Design, document, and train staff on warehouse procedures that align with lean principles and best practices.
- Continuous Improvement: Lead Kaizen events and implement lean initiatives to eliminate waste in warehouse operations.
- Data & Metrics: Use KPIs (throughput, space utilization, pick efficiency, inventory accuracy, etc.) to measure and drive improvements.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with Manufacturing, Quality, Safety, and Supply Chain teams to ensure warehouse operations support production goals.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain, or related field (preferred)., * 3+ years of experience in warehouse engineering, industrial engineering, or material handling system design.
- Strong knowledge of racking systems, warehouse layouts, and material flow principles.
- Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen methodologies.
- Experience with WMS (Warehouse Management Systems) and data-driven decision-making.
- Ability to conduct racking inspections in accordance with OSHA and/or RMI standards.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- CAD or layout design software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.) for warehouse planning.
- Experience with automation solutions (conveyors, ASRS, AMRs/AGVs).
- Knowledge of ergonomics and safety standards in material handling.
