Job description

The Director of IT Clinical Applications is responsible for the overall direction of the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and the integration of related systems and devices across MyMichigan Health. This individual will direct the cross-functional matrices required for developing and maintaining excellent support and the integrity and optimization of the EMR and all related clinical systems

The Director of IT Clinical Applications will work with the MyMichigan Health business owners, the EMR vendor and other Health Care organizations to leverage best practices in EMR clinical workflows and service lines for planning, developing, implementing and maintaining services for all MyMichigan Health customers.

This individual is responsible for identifying opportunities to standardize and consolidate systems within and integrated with the EMR.

The Director of IT Clinical Applications will assist in setting and implementing the IT department strategic plan, meeting IT organizational goals and aid in the allocation of human and financial resources.

Responsibilities:

(25%)* Provide direction ensuring that best practices and processes are followed (e.g., development, testing, change control, and implementation planning.)

(25%)* Provide direction for the management of the cross-functional matrices within IT.

Collaborate with service lines, the EMR vendor and other Health Care organizations to ensure the organization remains current using EMR best practices.

(25%)* Assess skills of MyMichigan Health IT Clinical Complex leadership team, create professional development plans to help them acquire the skills needed to support the EMR system effectively and coach them through the learning process. Ensure self and team maintains professional development and growth to keep abreast of changes in EMR technology and healthcare in general.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide excellent customer service to all customers while performing duties.

All other duties as assigned.

Certifications and Licensures:

NIMS IS 100: NIMS IS 100 Introduction Incident Command System

Within 6 months of hire or transfer

NIMS IS 700: NIMS IS 700 Introduction National Incident Mgt System

Within 6 months of hire or transfer

NIMS IS 200: NIMS IS 200 Basic Incident Command System Initial Response

Requirements

Master's degree in information systems, business administration, healthcare management/administration or related field required., Progressive experience with seven (7) years? experience in Information Systems in a large complex healthcare environment.

Experience with implementation and leading EMR or clinical IT projects.

Demonstrated ability to be self-directed with excellent organizational, analytical, writing, interpersonal and project related skills.

Minimum of five (5) years management experience.

MyMichigan Health is a technology driven organization and employees need to demonstrate competency in Microsoft Windows. Employees are required to take a Computer Skills Assessment via the learning management system upon hire. Based on the results of the assessment, an employee may be required to participate in further learning opportunities offered by MyMichigan Health.

Experience working with Epic, Cerner or Allscripts EMRs.

Experience working with vendors dealing with contracts and billing.

Experience working with Ancillary systems.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.

Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.

Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.

Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).

Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.

Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.

Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.

Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.

Physical Demand Level: Sedentary. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 0-10.
