Job description

The MITRE Expeditionary & Hybrid Fleet Department is seeking a highly motivated candidate to serve as a Lead, Model Based Systems Engineer. The MITRE Expeditionary & Hybrid Fleet Department delivers innovative concepts, technologies, and methodologies enabling current and future Naval superiority. Risk takers skilled in recognizing agility across a complex enterprise will find a home in the Naval Division where their skills will push the boundaries of military digital and mission engineering. This position requires creative problem solving through novel applications of systems of systems engineering and strategic enterprise architecture to improve future system technology development, requirements development, and sponsor investments.

The ideal candidate will have an operational and domain knowledge of the Marine Corps meshed with an understanding of enterprise architectures, capability and requirements analysis, and techniques. The successful candidate will enjoy working with diverse and geographically dispersed teams to answer our sponsors' hardest questions regarding the application of systems engineering principles to critical systems employments.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Modeling architectures of complex systems using standards-based languages (ex. SysML / UML).
  • Support requirements, interface, and architecture change management processes, ensuring UAF compliance.
  • Evaluating and comparing alternative architectures using qualitative and quantitative technique.
  • Articulating major uncertainties associated with systems architectures, defining risks, and opportunities.
  • Supporting requirements management, interface management, and architecture change management processes.
  • Collaborating closely with our sponsor and our team to identify critical problems and engineer approaches to address them.
  • Applying systems engineering principles and approaches to inform evidence driven decision making by sponsors.
  • Clearly and concisely communicating highly technical analyses and recommendations to sponsors and partners in written and verbal products.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of experience with a Bachelor's Degree in a technical engineering discipline; or 6 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years' experience; or
  • Related experience in systems analysis and integration, mission analysis, capabilities development, requirements analysis, and/or business process analysis,
  • Demonstrated application of model-based systems engineering and digital engineering using SySML and tools such as, Cameo, and Rhapsody,
  • Functional knowledge of DoD's acquisition and requirements processes,
  • Demonstrated experience performing impactful analytical work,
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely (oral and written),
  • Active DoD secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • This position requires a minimum of 4 days a week on-site., * Master's Degree in a technical discipline (e.g., information systems, systems engineering, computer science, information technology).
  • A current/active DoD Top Secret clearance.
  • Demonstrated application of model-based systems engineering and digital engineering using SySML and tools such as, Cameo, and Rhapsody.
  • Knowledge of the Unified Architecture Framework (UAF) and experience applying it to defense-related systems.
  • Familiarity with Position, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) concepts and their impact on system architecture (a plus).
  • Experience working with Marine Corps operational concepts and doctrine (preferred).
  • Demonstrated technical management for SE projects that require cross-disciplinary collaboration.
