Job description

We are seeking a hands-on Embedded Software Engineer to join a small, multidisciplinary product team developing miniaturized sensor and processing systems for aerospace and defense applications. This role is for an engineer who thrives at the intersection of low-level embedded software, custom hardware, and real-world integration testing. You will work closely with firmware, electrical, and mechanical engineers to bring advanced sensor systems from concept through lab validation and field testing.

If you're an engineer who wants to work hands-on with hardware, solve complex integration challenges, and see your embedded code drive real sensors in the field - this is where software meets mission.

This position will be on-site at our Burnsville, MN location.

What You Will Do

  • Develop bare-metal embedded C software for ARM-based SoC platforms.
  • Design, implement, and debug low-level device drivers (MIPI, SPI, Ethernet, memory-mapped I/O).
  • Initialize processors, configure registers, and control peripherals.
  • Integrate and control video acquisition and sensor interfaces, including MIPI-based cameras.
  • Collaborate with firmware engineers to manage acquisition, memory handling, and scheduling.
  • Work hands-on with custom CCA board stacks to validate hardware/software integration.
  • Perform lab testing, troubleshooting, image validation, and support field testing.
  • Maintain and enhance Matlab-based test environments.

What You Will Learn

  • Work on custom hardware and processing boards (not COTS-only systems).
  • Work on applications across optical-guided systems, maritime platforms, UAS/drone systems, and emerging space-based sensing efforts.

Requirements

Ability to obtain INTERIM U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date, * Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience.

  • Experience with Embedded C programming in resource-constrained or real-time systems.
  • Experience with bare-metal development, including direct control of processor initialization and peripherals.
  • Experience developing and debugging low-level device drivers, including interaction with hardware registers and memory-mapped I/O.
  • Experience with System-on-Chip architecture or ARM-based processors.
  • Experience with hardware interfaces such as SPI, Ethernet, or similar communication buses., * Experience with video acquisition and control systems (MIPI, EO/IR, imaging, or similar).
  • Experience working with ARM-based SoC platforms (e.g., Zynq) and custom electronics, including reading schematics.
  • Experience integrating software with FPGA firmware components.
  • Experience with lab-based hardware integration and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with Matlab/Simulink or LabVIEW test environments.
  • An advanced degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering
