Job description

As a Cyber Product Owner supporting the Data Protection Service Area you will be accountable for contributing to and delivering upon the strategic agenda for our core cyber products. In this capacity, you will drive product vision into our development teams, translate vision into delivery objectives, provide customer-informed guidance to shape products, and work with cross-functional teams to deliver well-managed and sustainable features that bring that vision to life. You will use your deep technical knowledge and subject matter expertise in cybersecurity and Data Protection (eg. DLP, DSPM, Classification) to drive impactful improvements to our cyber capabilities.

What you'll do:

  • Communicate the Data Protection Product roadmap to our technology teams by inspiring the team through the DLP product vision
  • Clearly articulate and advocate target persona, customer benefit, and value of features across teams
  • Leverage deep technical knowledge of DLP and Data Protection configurations to support engineering teams in delivering high-value security outcomes.
  • Utilize strong cybersecurity background and customer research and insights to represent the voice of the customer to the engineering team(s)
  • Drive continuous improvement of the Data Protection program through strategic planning, strong governance practices, thoughtful engagement with business partners, and development of a thorough understanding of business practices to identify data loss concerns.
  • Incorporate design thinking and analytics to inform product design
  • Actively participate in research or design sessions for new features
  • Contribute to internal backlog refinement sessions to prepare business epics and stories. Collaborating with Engineering and Architects to address technical debt, SRE requirements, and comprehensive acceptance criteria.
  • Prioritize the Product Backlog to maximize business and customer outcomes by balancing technical and non-technical aspects while also incorporating cyber and operational risk reduction outcomes and activities
  • Act as a technical advisor to the product manager, engineering, and other stakeholders
  • Play a key role in Agile and SAFe ceremonies, supporting teams through the escalation and resolution of impediments.
  • Drive performance and innovation with data-driven insights
  • Proactively identify opportunities when key metrics on security, resilience and performance for your product (s) are not performing
  • Maintain technical and risk credibility with your own team(s) and with partners across our technology organization

Requirements

  • You have outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, with an ability to explain concepts to a diverse set of stakeholders.

  • You are naturally curious and stay on top of emerging trends and threats., * High School Diploma, GED or equivalent certification
  • At least 6 years of experience working in cybersecurity and information technology
  • At least 5 years of experience in Data Protection
  • At least 3 years of experience in product management, * Bachelor's Degree in Cybersecurity, Systems Engineering, or Computer Science
  • 4+ years of experience translating business strategy and analysis into products
  • 4+ years of Cyber Product Owner experience
  • 3+ years of hands-on JIRA experience
  • 2+ years of experience in technical writing
  • 2+ years of experience in regulated financial services organizations or tech companies
  • Experience leveraging AI, Machine Learning, or Large Language Models (LLMs) to enhance data protection, specifically in automated data classification or anomaly detection for DLP.
  • Deep understanding of Data Loss Prevention (DLP) tools, Data Boundaries (segmentation/egress control), Data Classification standards, and encryption.
  • Any of the following certifications: SAFe PM/PO, CISSP, GIAC, CISM, CCSP, AWS Cloud Practitioner, AWS Security, or Symantec DLP Administration

Benefits & conditions

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $229,900 - $262,400 for Sr Manager, Cyber Technical

New York, NY: $250,800 - $286,200 for Sr Manager, Cyber Technical

Plano, TX: $209,000 - $238,500 for Sr Manager, Cyber Technical

Richmond, VA: $209,000 - $238,500 for Sr Manager, Cyber Technical

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
