Web Application Developer

The Panther Group is seeking a W2 Contract (short term, 2 months with potential to extend) 100% Onsite, Web Application Developer to support ongoing development initiatives for a prestigious Boston-based university’s award-winning global news platform.

This role is part of a collaborative development team responsible for building and maintaining shared application components used across high-visibility digital initiatives. The ideal candidate will bring strong PHP expertise, custom WordPress development experience, and the ability to work effectively within an established architecture.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to the development and extension of shared, PHP-based application components

Support feature development for a high-visibility global news platform and related digital initiatives * Work within an existing component-based architecture to ensure consistency and maintainability * Develop and integrate custom WordPress blocks as configuration interfaces for shared components * Implement features aligned with documented design and UX requirements * Identify edge cases and participate in technical discussions to resolve structural or functional issues * Write clear, maintainable, scalable code within an established codebase

• Participate in code reviews and adhere to development best practices

Strong experience with object-oriented PHP, including designing and extending reusable application logic * Experience implementing business logic beyond templating or presentation layers * Experience with custom WordPress development, including: + Custom blocks + PHP-based block rendering + WordPress as an editorial/interface layer * Proficiency in JavaScript (ES6+) and familiarity with TypeScript * Experience integrating PHP-driven logic with front-end functionality * Familiarity with React, particularly for editor tooling or interactive components * Experience working within established development workflows and codebases * Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills

• Ability to work on-site in Boston

Preferred ExperienceÂ

• ​​​​​​​Experience supporting public-facing publishing platforms or content-driven applications

Experience maintaining or extending shared component libraries or design systems * Familiarity with editorial workflows or event-driven sites

• Experience collaborating closely with UX and design teams
