Job description
- Install, maintain, and repair building electrical systems, including panels, feeders, branch circuits, lighting, receptacles, and control wiring.
- Inspect electrical systems and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and ensure compliance with codes.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot faults in wiring, motors, variable frequency drives (VFDs), contactors, relays, and other control devices using meters, testers, and schematics.
- Install, maintain, and repair electric motors, pumps, fans, HVAC electrical controls, and related mechanical/electrical equipment serving building systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance on electrical distribution equipment, including switchgear, transformers, panelboards, disconnects, and emergency power equipment as assigned.
- Install and repair conduit, raceways, junction boxes, and cable systems in accordance with the Electrical Code (NEC) and local codes.
- Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, technical drawings, and equipment manuals to plan and execute work.
- Estimate time, labor, and materials for assigned work orders, maintain records of work performed, and update as-built documentation.
- Assist with installation, inspection, and repair of low-voltage systems such as fire alarm, security, access control, and communication cabling where permitted by license and policy.
- Coordinate with supervisors, building operations, and other trades to schedule shutdowns and minimize disruption to occupants.
- Follow electrical safe work practices, including lockout/tagout, arc flash procedures, and use of appropriate PPE, and comply with OSHA and company safety policies.
- Provide emergency response for electrical failures and building system outages, including after-hours on-call coverage as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Completion of an electrical apprenticeship program or vocational/technical training in electrical or industrial maintenance is strongly .
Work Experience and Minimum Requirements:
- Typically, 3-5 years of experience in commercial, industrial, or institutional building electrical maintenance or closely related work.
- OSHA safety training (e.g., OSHA 10/30), NFPA 70E training,
- Effective written/oral communication and good interpersonal skills.
- Working knowledge in Microsoft Office that includes MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Valid NY/NJ/CT or PA driver license, in good standing.
Testing:
- Drug screening, as permitted by, and consistent with, applicable law.
Physical Requirements:
Persons performing service in this position classification may routinely exert up to 75 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. This type of work will involve regular walking or standing for extended periods of time. It may involve stooping or bending. Handling and working with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.
