Job description

Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Data Engineer to join our team! In this role, you will collaborate directly with federal clients and cross-functional teams to maintain streaming data solutions. You'll deploy and manage Kafka clusters in Kubernetes environments, gather requirements onsite, and provide feedback while participating in agile ceremonies, design reviews, and customer demos to ensure seamless delivery of innovative data pipelines.

This role supports a hybrid schedule, requiring at least three days per week on-site or as needed.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Work directly with federal clients and cross-functional teams to deliver Kafka-based streaming data solutions
  • Design, develop, and maintain Kafka applications and data pipelines
  • Deploy and manage Kafka clusters in Kubernetes environments
  • Collaborate onsite with customers to gather requirements and provide technical guidance
  • Participate in agile ceremonies, design reviews, and customer demonstrations

Requirements

  • B.S. in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3+ years software engineering experience
  • Strong Java development skills with experience building production applications
  • Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka - topics, partitions, consumer groups, and basic operations
  • Strong communication and client-facing skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for diverse audiences and work directly with customers
  • Experience with distributed systems concepts and troubleshooting
  • Experience with Linux environments and basic scripting (bash/shell)
  • Experience with Git and modern development workflows
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes or container orchestration platforms
  • Active Secret clearance is required

What Desired Skills You'll Bring:

  • Kafka Connect connector development or Kafka Streams experience
  • Kubernetes operators (Strimzi) or stateful workload management
  • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible, etc.)
  • CI/CD and DevSecOps practices
  • Monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, etc.)
  • Agile methodology experience

Salary Range: $103,500.00 - $181,100.00
