Job description

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a System Administrator/Cybersecurity Expert with responsibility for planning and coordinating the information security, installation, testing, upgrading, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of multiple unique, network systems which support hardware-in-the-loop laboratories and an array of business networks., Help

  • Performs role as a Master System Administrator/Cybersecurity Expert: Secures, plans, coordinates, installs, and maintains software and hardware for multiple hardware-in-the-loop laboratories and advanced program networks supporting operational infrastructure.

  • Provides cybersecurity technical guidance and instruction to engineers and senior IT specialists.

  • Serves as master technical advisor to management and senior IT specialists.

  • Maintains liaison with manufacturers, professional organizations, and master level cybersecurity specialists at other installations and services regarding available products and state-of-the-art technologies and advancements., * AF Internal Employee

Requirements

EXPERIENCE: Must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the following four competencies: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, Problem Solving AND have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade (GS-12) or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes: Developing and interpreting policies, procedures, security tenets and technical management guidelines to provide technical assistance and training to the organization; troubleshooting/diagnosing complex computer system failures, recovering systems, and adjusting/improving systems to include hardware and software components; providing expert technical advice, guidance, and recommendations to management and other technical specialists on critical IT/cybersecurity issues; communicating complex technical requirements to non-technical personnel and preparing/conducting briefings for senior management officials regarding controversial courses of action; modifying existing systems and relating all aspects of work to overall system requirements; advising on and implementing new information security technology; and offering alternative approaches to operating systems development and/or problem resolution.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-12 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-13 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

  • Knowledge of the principles, methods, and information security practices for integrating information system components sufficient to plan, coordinate, and administer computer systems, and optimize system performance.

  • Knowledge of the latest advancements in secure information technology to initiate corrective or preventative action to ensure optimum performance of the system.

  • Knowledge of performance tuning tools, database management, and project management methods sufficient to optimize systems performance, troubleshoot database performance problems, and perform a wide range of systems administration functions.

  • Knowledge of unique operating systems, associated devices, and the interoperability of test lab systems sufficient to install, upgrade, troubleshoot, test, and maintain those systems; to optimize the functionality and secure performance of systems; and to ensure the availability, integrity, efficiency, and reliability of servers.

  • Apply to apply methods and information security practices for troubleshooting, recovering, adjusting, modifying, and improving systems to solve complex problems, provide support that minimizes interruptions in service to engineers, and maintain liaison with industry and other activities to provide awareness of state-of-the-art technology.

  • Recall to duty and overtime may be a requirement of this position.
  • Cyberspace Qualification is a condition of employment. This position includes Cyberspace work as a paramount duty requirement.
  • Per DoDM 8140.03, para 4.2.a.(2)., requires foundational qualification requirements within 9 months of assignment to a cyberspace work role and resident qualification requirements within 12 months of assignment to a cyberspace work role.
  • A waiver of these requirements may be granted per DoDM 8140.03. Failure to achieve and maintain the proper Cyberspace Qualification may result in removal from this position.
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
  • Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive position presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
  • This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions.
