Job description

The IT Specialist manages, monitors, and supports all aspects of the Town of Milliken's information technology systems and infrastructure. This position is responsible for the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and security of Town hardware, software, servers, and networks. The IT Specialist provides technical assistance to staff, ensures reliable system performance, and implements upgrades to maintain efficient, secure, and modern technology solutions., * Manage user accounts, access permissions, and system security across Town networks and servers.

  • Maintain and monitor the Town's network, servers, workstations, and software systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and connectivity issues in a timely manner.
  • Install, configure, and upgrade hardware, software, and peripheral equipment as needed.
  • Monitor system performance and ensure data integrity and backup reliability.
  • Maintain and monitor network firewalls, VPN access, Wi-Fi systems, and domain controllers.

Technical Support

  • Provide responsive and professional IT support to Town staff for hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
  • Respond to helpdesk requests, diagnose problems, and ensure timely resolution.
  • Educate staff on technology use, security practices, and system updates.
  • Coordinate with vendors and consultants for specialized IT services or repairs. Meeting & Event Support
  • Provide support by attending evening Town Board meetings, held on every 2nd and 4th Wednesday each month.
  • Occasionally attend Planning Commission meetings, held on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday each month.
  • Perform AV setup, live/recorded streaming, and post-production tasks for all meetings.
  • Responsible for setting up meeting rooms for scheduled local or virtual meetings.

Technology Management and Security

  • Maintain Town systems including VOIP phones, mobile devices, time clocks, electronic door access, and security cameras.
  • Oversee audiovisual (AV) systems for recording, video conferencing, and live streaming.
  • Maintain and update Town websites, servers, and cloud-based applications (including Office 365 Administration).
  • Ensure system security by applying updates, patches, and antivirus measures.
  • Assist with technology budgeting, purchasing, and inventory management.

Project and Operations Support

  • Assist with planning and implementation of new IT projects and infrastructure improvements.
  • Support department operations requiring IT or AV setup, including meetings and public broadcasts.
  • Maintain documentation for IT systems, procedures, and network configurations.
  • Provide technical support during emergencies and after-hours as required.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of PC and network operating systems, hardware configuration, and security protocols.
  • Familiarity with network architecture including servers, switches, routers, and firewalls.
  • Knowledge of audiovisual equipment, video conferencing systems, and production methods.
  • Understanding of best practices in IT management, data security, and backup systems.
  • Skill in diagnosing and resolving technical issues efficiently.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
  • Ability to lift equipment and perform physical tasks related to installation and maintenance., * Associate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field required; bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in IT system administration, network management, or computer maintenance.
  • Experience managing technology for 50+ users preferred.
  • Valid Colorado driver's license and satisfactory driving record required.

MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT USED

Windows domain, Windows servers, hyper-v services, Office 365 Administration, firewalls, network security tools, Wi-Fi and VPN systems, backups, and remote access. Hardware and software include: SonicWall, Ubiquiti, Avast, Synology, NetExtender, Revize, TimeTrax, Verizon OneTalk, AVA Aware, OpenPath, Tricaster, NDI, and Kdenlive. Standard office equipment, VOIP phones, AV equipment, security cameras, and diagnostic tools.

The position involves frequent computer and equipment use, troubleshooting hardware and software, and occasional climbing, bending, and lifting of up to 50 pounds. Occasional exposure to electrical hazards is possible. The individual must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, kneel, and navigate stairs as needed. The role involves managing multiple priorities, responding to technical issues promptly, and communicating effectively both verbally and in writing. Some after-hours work, overtime, or emergency response may be required to support system maintenance, upgrades, or urgent technical issues. The individual must have the visual and auditory acuity necessary to perform essential duties and the physical capability to handle routine office tasks and IT equipment safely.

Pay: $62,005.00 - $74,406.00 per year
