Job description

  • Support the Quantification of Margins and Uncertainties (QMU) process through rigorous statistical analysis and the application of scientific methods.
  • Analyze data that has already been collected and conduct forensic data analysis to ensure data integrity and reliability.
  • Automate analysis algorithms and integrate them into software applications to streamline the QMU process.
  • Develop requirements, as well as the verification and validation of applications and algorithms, including the automation of the QMU process within software applications.
  • Utilize existing machine learning and deep learning methods to proactively mine archived stockpile data.
  • Prepare briefings, track work progress, coordinate efforts, and provide training related to data analysis and surveillance support.
  • Collaborate with various organizations and engineers in a coordinated and integrated environment.
  • Work both independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and self-starting capabilities.
  • Identify and implement improvements to organizational processes and products.
  • Utilize a high level of technical competency, including knowledge of statistical techniques, statistical software, and programming skills.
  • Extract, manipulate, plot, and analyze data from multiple databases, and draft comprehensive reports., Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

Requirements

  • A bachelor¿s degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.
  • Active DOE Q clearance or equivalent to start., * Graduate degree in a relevant computationally-intensive discipline where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation).
  • Experience in developing software for enterprise and national security applications.
  • Experience acquiring, preparing, and analyzing real world data.
  • Demonstrated software development skills and familiarity with modern software development practices.
  • Proven ability to work and communicate effectively in a collaborative and interdisciplinary team environment.

Also, for this posting we are seeking individuals with the following experience:

  • Active DOE Q clearance or equivalent.
  • Experience in data mining, retrieval, and analysis, including the application of statistical methodologies.
  • Proficiency in programming, particularly in Python, and familiarity with statistical software such as Minitab, JMP, and R.
  • Knowledge of nuclear weapon/component design, production, testing methodologies, and performance assessment.
  • Experience in machine learning and deep learning methods.
  • Project management experience, with a demonstrated ability to operate independently and drive process and product improvements.
  • Strong critical and creative thinking skills, with the ability to think outside the box.

Benefits & conditions

$117,500 - $235,700

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
