Location: Los Alamos, NM | 100% Onsite (TA-55) Compensation: $59-$65/hr Schedule: 4/10s - Monday through Thursday (day shifts); future support of 24/7 operations including potential weekend day shifts (no overnight shifts) Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance, including unescorted access Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship Required, We are seeking a Project Engineer to support the Plutonium Facilities Engineering Division (PFE-DO) and Project Engineering Group (PFE-PE) at Los Alamos National Laboratory. In this role, you'll serve as the technically responsible engineer on assigned projects within the Plutonium Facility (PF-4) and surrounding facilities - directly contributing to the safety, reliability, and modernization of the nation's nuclear weapons stockpile stewardship mission.
This is a mid-level role with genuine ownership. You'll work closely with customers, design engineers, system engineers, and craft teams to deliver facility modifications, equipment installations, and process improvements that meet both mission needs and LANL's rigorous technical standards., * Meet with customers and facility users to understand project needs and define clear scopes of work
- Develop technical solutions for facility modifications, equipment replacements, layout changes, and new process or equipment installations
- Collaborate with Design Engineers and System Engineers across the full project lifecycle
- Facilitate design development, reviews, and acceptance with internal teams and external subject matter experts
- Support work execution and construction management during project implementation
- Manage engineering change control and provide technical responses to design deviations
- Ensure all solutions meet user needs and comply with LANL technical requirements
- Coordinate across multiple engineering disciplines, craft, and maintenance teams as the lead technical point of contact
- Complete project closeout by compiling and submitting documentation per LANL Document Control standards
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance, including unescorted access to a secure nuclear facility
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related technical field with 3+ years of relevant engineering experience
- Willingness to work 100% onsite in Los Alamos, NM - no hybrid or remote; must be available to support future 24/7 operations including potential weekend day shifts, * U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance with unescorted access
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related technical field
- 3+ years of relevant engineering or project engineering experience
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- High degree of reliability, ownership, and ability to work independently

- Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple concurrent projects
- Demonstrated initiative, accountability, and follow-through
- Experience working with cross-disciplinary teams in a technical environment
Note: No specific software tools, certifications, or prior DOE/plutonium experience required.
