Job description
i3 is seeking a Linux Systems Administrator to support an Army contract. The selected candidate will provide technical expertise in the deployment, integration, and maintenance of Linux-based systems supporting enterprise infrastructure and mission operations.
The Linux Systems Administrator will work within a secure DevSecOps environment, supporting system automation, configuration management, and secure infrastructure deployment. The role requires collaboration with engineering, cybersecurity, and operations teams to maintain a secure, scalable, and highly automated computing environment.
Candidates must possess, or be able to obtain, a United States SECRET security clearance.
Responsibilities

Build, configure, and maintain standardized Linux operating systems (such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9) across multiple operational use cases.

Create and maintain Linux virtual machine golden images using source code management and automation pipelines.

Integrate Linux systems with Active Directory environments using technologies such as SSSD.

Maintain software repository mirrors using Red Hat Satellite and custom Ansible automation.

Implement multifactor authentication (MFA) solutions including CAC/Smartcard PKI authentication and certificate management in mixed Windows/Linux environments.

Collaborate with team members in an Agile development environment to deliver secure, scalable, and reproducible infrastructure.

Maintain system configurations using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) stored in Git repositories.

Perform Linux system configuration, patching, and vulnerability remediation using automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Chef, or GitLab pipelines.

Support DevSecOps CI/CD pipelines operating on OpenShift clusters and Linux systems.

Deploy and maintain OpenShift cluster nodes on both bare-metal and cloud infrastructure.

Apply system security configurations in accordance with DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs).

Assist with implementation of Risk Management Framework (RMF) 2.0 continuous monitoring processes and tools.

Support Independent Security Assessments (ISA) and cybersecurity compliance activities.

Implement system security configurations aligned with Zero Trust architecture principles.

Deploy and maintain network storage servers supporting Linux environments.

Create and maintain technical documentation using Markdown and other documentation formats.

Assist cybersecurity personnel with RMF accreditation documentation, SOPs, policies, and operational procedures.

Continuously improve system capabilities through research, evaluation, and implementation of new technologies and processes.
Requirements
-
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or related field with 6+ years of experience, or 10+ years of equivalent experience.

Must meet DoD 8140 Intermediate System Administrator requirements (e.g., Security+, Cloud+, GICSP, SSCP, or GSEC).

Must possess, or obtain, a Linux computing environment certification in compliance with DoD 8140.

Willingness to obtain Linux+ certification within 6 months of hire if not already certified.

Strong experience administering Linux operating systems (RHEL, CentOS, or equivalent).

Experience troubleshooting and maintaining enterprise Linux environments.

Familiarity with Linux automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or Chef.

Experience with Infrastructure as Code and source code management (Git).

Experience with OpenShift or Kubernetes environments preferred.

Strong understanding of DoD cybersecurity practices and compliance frameworks (STIG, RMF).
-
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Active Secret Security Clearance preferred, or ability to obtain and maintain one.
