Lead Programmer Analyst

Computing and Information Technology at SUNY Geneseo seeks to hire a Lead Programmer Analyst to join the Information Systems group. The Lead Programmer Analyst analyzes, designs, constructs, tests, documents, and supports software associated with campus administrative information systems. In addition to custom developed software, the position will be responsible for configuration and integration with third party applications.

A successful candidate will be able to work on a highly collaborative technical team to solve problems and provide excellent support to the college community with the support of senior developers.

Summary of Responsibilities:

• Act as lead developer supporting the Banner student information system and other campus management information systems
• Consult with customers on application requirements, business process improvements, and use of applications
• Design, develop, test, document, and support database applications that provide business workflows, transactional maintenance, and data integration with third party applications
• Develop custom reporting and analytics
• Configure, test, and support third party product modules
• Interface with third party product support resources to resolve problems
• Manage projects independently, including planning, scheduling, communication, and effective use of campus request tracking system, Flexible hybrid work arrangements may be an option subject to NYS, SUNY and Geneseo rules, regulations and policies.

The director routinely meets 1:1 to provide guidance and direction for their work. Supervision Exercised The Lead Programmer Analyst may also supervise student workers and interns on projects. The Lead Programmer Analyst may also will take a leadership role in managing projects and small teams of colleagues., Percentage Of Time 45% Job Duty/ Responsibility Function 1: Analyze, design, code, test software applications.

-Work as a member of the Information Systems team on the development of new applications and modifications to existing applications as needed. -Code program instructions. -Compile and test programs in accordance with installation and application standards. -Integrate programs with the mainline systems. -Consolidate, condense and document all program/systems details in a concise manner so that sufficient information is available for Information Systems, end users and management. Percentage Of Time 30% Job Duty/ Responsibility Function 2: Provide support for in-house and third-party application.

• Configure applications per customer requirements. -Troubleshoot problems. -Manage vendor support. -Daily operational/admin tasks. -Coordinate/test upgrades. -Periodically review the applicability of individual programs in the total systems and procedure context; design methods to improve existing program capabilities. -Determine/isolate the source of any problems in current programs; correct program in most effective manner and test program reliability after corrections. Percentage Of Time 15% Job Duty/ Responsibility Function 3: Consult with customers.

-Business process improvement, new product design, keep informed, answer questions. -Discuss program/systems options with representatives of requesting department, develop specifications and a time frame for implementation, and review all aspects with the Assistant Director for Information Systems during each phase of the process. -Serve as an end user resource for applications by defining their interface requirements, consulting, answering questions, and providing other assistance. -Manage projects (typically managing self, sometimes coordinating a small team of peers). -Provide assistance/direction as needed to Computing & Information Technology staff and temporary service programmers.

• Assist with creation, scheduling and support of batch processes and applications. Percentage Of Time 2% Job Duty/ Responsibility Function 5: Professional Development

-Participate in the SUNY SICAS program by attending user and technical FAUG meetings where appropriate. -Sharing locally written programs and providing feedback to SICAS Center when needed. -Keep technical skills current in areas pertinent to responsibilities (e.g. Banner, SQL, Relational Databases, Web User Interfaces, Java/Groovy/Grails, AppWorx, Source Code Control, UNIX, JIRA, Wiki Systems, etc.). -Attend SUNY and vendor training seminars where appropriate. Percentage Of Time 3% Job Duty/ Responsibility Function 6: General Requirements and Teams.

-Follow CIT Policy and Procedures as defined by the Director and CIT Management Team. -Includes but is not limited to attending monthly CIT department meetings and regularly scheduled functional area meetings. -Posting time off to CIT department calendar. -Completing time off and travel requests, etc. -Perform incidental duties associated with day-to-day functions of the offices of Computing & Information Technology, most of which entail front-line interaction with campus computer users, both in person and by telephone. -Resolving computing problems for walk-in users. -Covering for staff absences. -Post, in a timely manner, to the status web page any scheduled changes and down times, outages and problems when appropriate. -Contribute to publication of technical and informational newsletters, electronic communications, bulletins and CIT web pages where appropriate. -Contribute to instruction of training courses for campus computing users and staff where appropriate. -Communicate regularly with colleagues and clients to keep them informed of activities and projects that interest or affect them. -Report regularly to the Director and your area manager on the status of on-going projects. -Be conscious of CIT's reputation on campus and work to improve it by effective communication, knowledgeable technical support and offering new services when appropriate. -Actively participate in CIT strategic planning and assessment processes. -Participate when requested on CIT Project Teams where your expertise is required and/or you have the opportunity to acquire new and relevant skills. Project Team participation may comprise a significant portion of your workload during the life of a given project, and may include specific duties not outlined in this job description. The Director in consultation with other team members will evaluate your work on Project Teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• A minimum of 1-3 years analysis and programming experience
• Experience developing web-based applications HTML/CSS/Javascript web-based user interfaces
• Proficiency with system integration and APIs
• Proficiency in object-oriented programming language(s) such as Java, Groovy, PHP
• Experience with Ellucian Banner student information system
• Proficiency with reporting writing tools such as Evisions Argos and Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services
• Experience with analytical reporting tools such as PowerBI
• Experience with Linux/Unix commands and operating system License/Certification Other Skills Required
