In this role, you will lead the design and evolution of Western Union's API platform, driving simplification, scalability, and innovation across business lines. You'll collaborate with engineering, product, and business stakeholders to define architectural standards, guide implementation, and ensure alignment with strategic goals.
You will be working with a team of engineers with a broad range of responsibilities including all aspects of software engineering like requirements, understanding and validation, solution design detailed design, development, testing and software configuration management. Build products, systems, and services that are optimized, well organized and maintainable, and have high impact on our end users.
Role Responsibilities
- Design and maintain architecture for scalable, reliable, and secure applications and services.
- Guide a cross-functional team of developers and production support team, providing direction, support, and mentorship.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, QA, DevOps, and UX to ensure smooth delivery.
- Drive engineering excellence through agile practices, code development, code reviews, and continuous improvement, * Evaluate and recommend tools, frameworks, and technologies based on evolving business needs.
- Work with a cross-functional team of developers, providing direction, support, and mentorship.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, QA, DevOps, and UX to ensure smooth delivery.

Requirements

B.E/BTech/BS/MS/MCA in Computer Science or related field or equivalent work experience.
-
5+ years of experience in software architecture and engineering.

Strong knowledge on modern architecture patterns (microservices, event-driven, cloud-native).

Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and CI/CD tools.

Proven experience leading engineering projects with strong interpersonal skills.

Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to make critical decisions under pressure.

Experience with distributed systems, API design, and data modeling.

Exposure to Agile/Scrum methodologies and DevOps culture.

Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to stakeholders.

Core Java, Spring and Spring Boot

In-depth knowledge of microservices architecture principles and design patterns.

Experience with containerization technologies, such as Docker, and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.

Experience with building RESTful APIs and event-driven systems.

Experience with CI/CD tools and practices (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI).

Strong understanding of database systems, both SQL (e.g., PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB).

Experience with message brokers and streaming platforms like Apache Kafka.

API design and integration include REST, Soap, XML/JSON and Web API.

Experience in architecting applications in Java and related technologies

Experience with using latest engineering tools (eg. Jenkins, JIRA, Confluence, Git/Perforce).

Design and maintain architecture for scalable, reliable, and secure applications and services.

Perform architecture reviews, proof-of-concepts, and design discussions across teams.

Define and enforce coding standards, architectural guidelines, and best practices.
Benefits & conditions
Annual base salary range is $130,000 - 155,000 USD per year. Total on-target compensation includes a base salary and short-term incentives that align with individual and company performance.
