Job description

  • Design using modern architectural patterns (layered, microservices, event driven, CQRS, SOA) and understand when not to use each.
  • Lead API design efforts (REST, GraphQL, gRPC), ensuring versioning, backward compatibility, and consistent contract design.
  • Model domains effectively using bounded contexts, aggregates, and clean ownership principles.
  • Design integrations using messaging, pub/sub, streaming, workflows, and anti corruption layers.
  • Own non functional design including scalability, resiliency, observability, maintainability, and multi tenant considerations.
  1. Technical Fundamentals
  • Drive data architecture decisions across relational, NoSQL, and time-series databases.
  • Apply distributed system practices including retries, circuit breakers, timeouts, and consistency models.
  • Contribute to cloud (Azure/AWS) and infrastructure design: containers, orchestration, networking, IaC, DNS, CDN, load balancing.
  • Ensure secure system design using OAuth2/OIDC, secrets management, encryption, and threat modeling.
  • Lead performance engineering work: profiling, capacity planning, backpressure, queue sizing, and SLO-driven tuning.
  1. Delivery & Engineering Excellence
  • Shape CI/CD strategy: pipelines, blue/green & canary releases, trunk-based development, artifact/versioning rules.
  • Define test strategy across units, integration, contract, and E2E layers.
  • Establish best observability practices (logs, metrics, traces, correlation IDs, dashboards).
  • Lead reliability practices such as SLO/SLI definition, error budgets, chaos engineering, and graceful degradation.
  1. Leadership & Influence
  • Drive technical decision-making using tradeoff analysis and Architecture Decision Records (ADRs).
  • Communicate effectively with engineering teams, executives, product, and security stakeholders.
  • Align cross-team architecture with reference designs, reusable platforms, and governance models.
  • Mentor engineers to elevate design and implementation quality.
  • Plan migrations, assess risk, and lead spikes/POCs to mitigate uncertainty.
  1. Documentation & Visualization
  • Create clear architecture diagrams using C4, sequence diagrams, and data flow diagrams.
  • Write architecture narratives explaining "why," tradeoffs, constraints, and operational models.
  • Produce runbooks covering operations, failure modes, and on-call procedures.

Requirements

  • Experience with or understanding of:
  • API gateways, service mesh patterns
  • Caching & messaging systems (e.g., Redis, Kafka/RabbitMQ patterns)
  • Identity providers & OIDC integration
  • Observability stacks and OpenTelemetry
