Job description
Hansen Talent Group is hiring a Sr Systems Programmer (IBM MQ) to support a high-performing Information Systems team in Columbia, SC. This is a hybrid role onsite 3 days/week.
This role focuses on maintaining and supporting critical systems software in a mainframe environment, with a strong emphasis on IBM MQ. You'll troubleshoot complex issues, support system upgrades, and ensure reliable, secure messaging and system performance across enterprise platforms.
What You'll Do
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve system software issues in test and production environments
- Support and maintain IBM MQ infrastructure, including queue managers and queues
- Install, configure, and upgrade MQ and related systems software
- Coordinate system changes, patches, and maintenance with minimal business disruption
- Monitor system performance (e.g., queue depth) and resolve issues proactively
- Evaluate and implement system change requests while maintaining infrastructure stability
- Support disaster recovery and ensure system reliability and availability
- Collaborate with internal teams on system enhancements and project initiatives
- Participate in on-call rotation and cross-train across systems programming areas
Requirements
- IT experience, including systems programming
- Strong experience with IBM MQ on mainframe (z/OS)
- Experience creating and maintaining queue managers and queues (critical requirement)
- Experience with JCL and mainframe/host environments
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in complex systems environments
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, 24/7 support environment
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience
