Job description

We are seeking a Senior Applications Engineer specializing in Solar and Storage String Inverters whose primary responsibility is serving as a technical product specialist for Residential, Commercial, and Small Ground Mount PV and Storage systems. This role supports customers across North America by analyzing system requirements, reviewing and proposing technical solutions for string and storage inverter applications, answering complex product questions, and supporting the sales organization through technical expertise. The position partners closely with internal teams and SMA headquarters in Germany and plays a key role in customer success, training, and market positioning.., * Serve as a senior technical specialist for SMA America products and solutions, with a primary focus on solar string inverters and storage inverter systems, including PV system design and storage applications

  • Provide technical support to customers via phone, email, and face-to-face meetings, including joint customer visits when needed
  • Interpret customer, utility, and interconnection requirements and recommend appropriate SMA products and system solutions
  • Support customers and internal teams during the project design and technical evaluation process
  • Develop, maintain, and deliver internal and external technical training materials and sessions
  • Create and support technical sales materials used by the sales organization in customer engagements
  • Serve as a liaison between the U.S. sales organization and SMA technical teams in Germany
  • Conduct ongoing competitor and market analysis to support product positioning and technical differentiation
  • Gather and prioritize customer and market requirements and provide structured feedback to product management and engineering
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market conditions, competitors, and applicable standards and regulations
  • Attend industry conferences, trade shows, and customer events as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or equivalent relevant industry experience
  • Minimum of 5 to 10 years of experience in technical sales, engineering, or service roles
  • Hands-on experience with solar PV systems, string inverters, or energy storage systems in a technical engineering or applications role
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • High attention to detail with strong organizational and analytical skills
  • In-depth knowledge of solar PV systems, string inverters, power electronics, and storage solutions

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiarity with U.S. energy standards, codes, and utility interconnection requirements
  • Experience supporting customers across residential, commercial, and small ground mount applications
  • Ability to analyze complex technical problems and deliver clear, customer-focused solutions
  • Experience delivering technical training and supporting sales organizations
  • German and or Spanish language proficiency is a plus
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed
