Job description
Seeking a Linux Administrator to support the DTRA I3TS Infrastructure Services team in maintaining and optimizing the Linux production environment. This role is responsible for sustaining Linux servers as well as the conceptualization, design, development, and implementation of new Linux capabilities. The administrator will work as part of the DTRA Systems Administration team, following ITIL best practices, while also operating independently on assigned tasks. This position supports the full service lifecycle-from design and development through production-building and deploying Linux-based systems in a virtualized environment. The ideal candidate is familiar with system automation technologies, basic database administration and tuning, and demonstrates strong problem-solving skills in a complex environment. Effective communication with both technical team members and customers is essential.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provision servers and environments
- Manage user access
- Perform full lifecycle management of Linux servers, including installation, configuration, and patching in production and test environments
- Develop and maintain automation scripts using Unix shell scripting and Ansible playbooks
- Perform security patching, upgrades, and system hardening to meet compliance standards and remediate vulnerabilities
- Monitor system performance and respond to alerts
- Establish and maintain NTP services in production environments
- Maintain satellite servers for software releases and patch distribution
- Ensure compliance with DoD STIGs and security best practices
- Support and administer web servers and certificates
- Work independently in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple projects
- Lead projects within assigned areas of responsibility
- Communicate across internal technical teams and with client stakeholders
- Provide support during standard M-F business hours, with on-call, extended-hour, and weekend support as required by mission or emergency needs
- Create, maintain, and update technical documentation and standard operating procedures

- DoD 8570 IAT Level II or III (e.g., Security+ CE, CASP+, CISSP)
- Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) - preferred
Requirements
- Linux system administration, * Systems or network administration experience in Windows Server and/or Cisco environments
- Familiarity with automated call distribution systems
- Process-based certifications or frameworks such as ITIL, HDI, COBIT, Lean Six Sigma, or Six Sigma

This is a Contract position based out of Fort Belvoir, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $65.00/hr.
