At UConn Health, this classification participates in all aspects of planning, design, development, and maintenance of new or existing functionality in the Epic EHR. This includes providing analysis, development, modification, configuration, installation, programming, testing and maintenance of the EHR and other Clinical Systems applications. THIS IS A HYBRID POSITION REQUIRING ONE (1) DAY/WEEK ON SITE WORK AND CAN REQUIRE ADDITIONAL ON-SITE WORK AS ASSIGNED. SUBJECT TO CHANGE PER MANAGEMENT AND BASED ON DEPARTMENTAL NEEDS. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under general supervision of Director, Inpatient Applications and Lead Orders Analyst or designee. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Administrative and Project Duties: Participates in project planning sessions with team members to analyze requirements and provide design recommendations for moderate to complex solutions Prepares and presents status updates for various projects Monitors project status to ensure that service level agreements standards are met or exceeded Maintains and manages project issue log Escalates problems when appropriate Maintains relationship and open communication channels with Clinical Systems vendor representatives Technical Duties: Identifies solutions for moderately complex system requirements Performs in-depth analysis of workflows, data collection, reports details and other technical issues associated with the Clinical Systems environment Analyzes and researches enhancements to system components or within the Clinical Systems EHR environment Defines and designs scope for each project individually or in concert with team members ensuring that applications are integrated with other systems. Makes moderately complex application design decisions in conformance with clinical and business operational policies and procedures Participates in solution design reviews Develops detailed specifications for software parameters/functions and changes to new or modified applications. Performs Clinical Systems installation/application upgrades, new structures or elements Documents system changes and problem resolutions Develops or modifies moderately complex Clinical Systems EHR customizations, configurations and workflows Performs Clinical Systems EHR application upgrades, new structures or elements Creates test files and performs system testing Provides ongoing maintenance and tests [this includes audit trial monitoring, backups, system purges] to ensure Clinical Systems EHR solutions meet the organization's business needs Provides support to end users experiencing problems with Clinical Systems EHR applications and associated hardware and interfacing systems Ensures the ethical use of data, as well as data integrity, security and confidentiality of protected health information. Provides for the preparation and maintenance of documentation at the user levels. Monitors clinical operational issues focusing on efficient and effective delivery of complete and accurate, for the assigned areas and specialties of the Clinical Systems EHR information in order to achieve quality outcomes. Coordinates training for staff on the use of the applications. Stays current on the Clinical Systems EHR platform and related advanced features of software development technologies Stays current on clinical practices, policies, procedures and workflows within the area of expertise. Performs other related duties as required.
Requirements
Considerable knowledge of the principles of systems analysis, design and decision support Considerable knowledge of clinical operations, policies and procedures Considerable knowledge of applicable clinical standard of practice as required by State, Federal, and accreditation organizations Knowledge of standards/codes pertaining to the patient care environment Considerable knowledge of various systems and data analysis techniques and tools such as Swim Lane diagrams, As-Is and To-Be workflow design, fishbone diagrams, state transition diagrams, HER data model diagrams, data conversion and transformation mappings. Knowledge of computer technology support and capabilities. Considerable logical, analytical, problem solving and interpretive skills Ability to take action to ensure customer satisfaction Demonstrated ability to use and apply clinical expertise and experience to design and configure Clinical Systems EHR solutions. Demonstrated ability to write and maintain system documentation and user how to guides. Ability to pay careful attention to details Demonstrated ability to analyze techniques and develop solution to problems in a timely manner. Effective oral and written communication skills and good interpersonal skills. Proficient in MS-Office including Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio General Experience & Training: Clinical EHR Systems: Six [6] years' experience in clinical informatics, clinical process redesign, clinical systems analysis, design and implementation, one [1] of which must be in acute care or direct patient care setting. SUBSTITUTION ALLOWED: Associate Degree in Software Engineering, Management Information Systems, Clinical Informatics, Nursing, Pharmacy, or closely relevant/related field may substitute for two [2] years of general experience. Bachelor's degree in software engineering, Management Information Systems, Clinical Informatics, Nursing, Pharmacy, Physician Assistant, or closely relevant/related field may substitute for four [4] years of general experience. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Incumbents in this class must have or achieve within six months the Epic Inpatient Orders certification and maintain certification while in the position. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Current Epic certification in EpicCare Inpatient Procedure Orders. Demonstrated experience with Inpatient clinical documentations standards. Demonstrated recent application support experience in analysis, build, testing to support ED, Critical Care, and/or Inpatient workflows. Demonstrated ability to work directly with the physician community. Ability to provide recent examples of interactions with providers to create ordering solutions to enhance patient care. RN License Experience working with an inpatient CPOE tool and order sets. In-depth knowledge of inpatient clinical, ADT, and charging workflows, and the Epic Orders application.

SCHEDULE: Full time, 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, 30-minute unpaid meal break.
