Job description

The Data Analyst position provides a variety of operational reports for the School of Medicine. This role will be tasked with understanding and completing reporting requests based on provided requirements for stakeholders including medical students, faculty leaders (block/thread/theme/clerkship directors, College heads, etc.), Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho (WWAMI) regional deans and staff, and Academic Affairs deans and staff. Partners in this work include the Division of Medical Education and Evaluation in the Department of Biomedical Informatics and Medical Education, Dean of Medicine Information Technology, as well as the Educational Quality Improvement unit in Academic Affairs., Reporting request and data services (60%)

  • Work under the direction of Data Services and Medical Education leadership to develop reporting outputs and visualizations that support organizational goals and objectives.
  • Utilize SQL and data visualization tools (e.g. Power BI, Excel, SSRS Report Builder) to produce accurate and timely reports.
  • Respond to ongoing ad hoc reporting requests, including summary documentation on sources used and definitions applied to included fields.
  • Strategically own and manage smaller reporting projects from beginning to end in consultation with internal and external customers.
  • Work closely with Data Services team to understand information needs and objectives, provide solutions, and suggest alternatives for the provision of useful and actionable data in a resource-efficient manner.

Data services unit support (20%)

  • Track, assign and escalate support tickets to the appropriate team member.
  • Track data issues in auditing tools, resolve or escalate to appropriate team member.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Data quality testing and cleaning (20%)

  • Review data sets for accuracy, completeness, uniqueness, and quality.
  • Transform source data into relational format for load into Academic Affairs Data Mart.
  • Integrate data sets from multiple sources into single data table for analysis by Medical Education or other affiliated units.
  • Test data for discrepancies between Development and Test Environments., The position may require the employee to work beyond a normal work week (e.g. more than 40 hours a week) and intermittently requires evening and weekend time to host medical student events, participate in medical student programs, meet project deadlines, and/or attend meetings.

Requirements

This position requires a functional understanding of best practices in data querying, documentation, and security is required to ensure quality and security of reports. Ability to effectively communicate among with direct leadership, other team members, partner departments, and UW School of Medicine staff and students., * Bachelor's degree in any field.

  • Minimum 3 years of accumulated professional experience as a business analyst, reporting analyst, or other data analysis-related role.

Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

Additional Requirements.

  • Proficiency in SQL, Microsoft Power BI, and Excel
  • Experience with data querying, extraction, and cleaning to support reporting, analysis, and ad hoc requests.
  • Experience in the development of streamlined or automated reporting solutions.
  • Knowledge of data structures and ability to efficiently manipulate/query data.
  • Excellent listening and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language.
  • Highly self-motivated and self-directed, with an ability to bring enthusiasm and energy to a collaborative team environment.
  • Demonstrated experience working under pressure with frequent changes to reporting output and priorities in response to changes in reporting needs., * Bachelor's degree in the social sciences, math, statistics, or other information technology related field.
  • Experience with higher education data
  • Project Management experience or abilities
  • Experience working in higher education administration
