Job description
Seeking a skilled Systems Administrator to support a high-visibility, secure engineering environment. This role is hands-on, technical, and ideal for someone who enjoys working across virtualization, networks, Windows/Linux servers, and secure government systems. You'll support day-to-day operations as well as long-term modernization and Zero Trust initiatives. This is not a ticket-processing role - you will be a key member of the engineering team supporting mission-critical systems used across the organization.
What You'll Do (Day-to-Day)
Administer, maintain, and troubleshoot VMware / ESXi virtual environments Manage and support Windows and Linux servers, including patching, updates, and configuration Support and help design network architecture, including VLANs, firewalls, routing, switching, and system integrations Resolve complex system, application, or network issues across physical and virtual infrastructure Build and deploy new servers, harden systems, and maintain compliance with RMF, DFARS, STIGs, and program policies Work closely with system administrators, network engineers, cybersecurity teams, and program managers Assist with implementing Zero Trust, hybrid-cloud, and modernization projects Maintain documentation, support change control, and follow engineering and security processes Participate in technical discussions, troubleshooting sessions, and design reviews Support secure environments by monitoring logs, applying patches, and maintaining system baselines
Requirements
Active Secret clearance (required on Day 1) CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or other DoD 8570-approved certification 5+ years of experience in systems administration (or 3+ years with a related advanced degree) Hands-on experience with:
VMware / ESXi Windows & Linux server administration Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, routing, switching, VLANs) Troubleshooting hardware, software, and infrastructure issues
Experience working in secure or compliance-driven environments (RMF, DFARS)
Nice to Have
Cloud experience (AWS, Azure, hybrid environments) Automation or scripting (PowerShell, Bash, Python) Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy Experience supporting engineering tools or multi-vendor network environments
