Job description
As a Founding Software Engineer, you will build and ship product features for construction workforce management while collaborating closely with founders, influencing product architecture and culture., Mason ($6.5m raised, NYC-based, fast-growing AI startup) is hiring a Founding Software Engineer to help build the future of workforce management for construction.
This is an early, high-impact role. You'll work directly with the founders to design, build, and ship core product features that power time tracking, payroll, and compliance for thousands of workers in the field. You'll have ownership from day one and a direct influence on our product, architecture, and engineering culture.
We're open to two profiles:
- Full-Stack Engineer (Laravel + Vue) - You're comfortable working across the stack, with strong experience in PHP (Laravel) and Vue (ideally Vue 3).
- Front-End Engineer (React) - You lean front-end, building fast, intuitive user experiences in React (JavaScript), and are comfortable using AI tools to collaborate with and extend a PHP-based backend owned by the team.
Requirements
- Strong product instincts - you care about building things that actually get used
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced, early-stage environment with high ownership
- Comfort using modern AI coding tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT, etc.) as part of your workflow
- Clear communication and a bias toward action
- Experience with either:
- PHP (Laravel) + Vue, or
- React (JavaScript) with a willingness to work alongside a PHP backend
