The Principal IT Architect - SAP Business Intelligence & Data Platforms is a senior individual contributor within Global IT, responsible for designing and governing SAP-centric analytics and data platform solutions that enable trusted insights, operational excellence, and regulatory compliance across Medtronic's global enterprise.
This role serves as a lead solution architect for SAP Business Intelligence, reporting, and data platforms, partnering closely with business, IT, and delivery teams to translate analytics needs into scalable, secure, and sustainable SAP data architectures., Enterprise Scope & Accountability
- Operate with enterprise and global scope , influencing SAP transformation decisions across various businesses, finance, and enabling functions.
- Own the end-to-end architectural integrity of SAP Order-to-Cash solutions, from master data and pricing through order fulfillment, supply chain, invoicing and financial close.
- Ensure SAP solutions meet Medtronic's requirements for quality, security, auditability, regulatory compliance, and long-term operational sustainability .
- Enable architectural decisions with multi-year impact on Medtronic's SAP roadmap and finance transformation strategy.
- Lead SAP architecture strategy for Mergers, Acquisitions, and Divestitures (M&A/D) , ensuring rapid, compliant, and low-risk integration or separation of SAP Order-to-Cash and Finance capabilities.
- Own architectural decisions for data carveouts, system integrations, landscape rationalization, and transitional service models , aligned with Medtronic's deal timelines and regulatory requirements.
Architecture Ownership & Decision Authority
- Serve as the enterprise SAP solution architect for O2C and Finance domains, providing architecture leadership across programs and initiatives.
- Independently define solution architecture direction and design patterns, escalating only when decisions involve material enterprise risk, regulatory exposure, or significant financial impact.
- Establish and enforce enterprise architecture standards, reference architectures, and integration patterns across internal teams and system integration partners.
End-to-End SAP Solution Architecture
- Architect integrated SAP solutions covering Master Data (customers, pricing, products), Order Management, Billing, Revenue Recognition, Accounts Receivable, and Financial Reporting .
- Ensure strong alignment between business processes, SAP functional design, data models, and upstream/downstream integrations.
- Drive consistency and simplification across global SAP landscapes to reduce technical debt and improve process efficiency.
- Architect SAP solutions supporting entity integrations and separations , including master data harmonization, customer and pricing alignment, revenue recognition continuity, and financial reporting integrity.
- Ensure business continuity and audit readiness during Day-1 readiness, TSA execution, and post-close optimization .
Complexity, Innovation & Problem Solving
- Address highly complex, cross-functional challenges that span commercial operations, finance, compliance, data governance, and legacy SAP environments.
- Balance innovation with Medtronic's regulated-industry expectations, ensuring solutions are audit-ready, well documented, and operationally robust .
- Lead modernization of SAP and finance platforms while protecting continuity of mission-critical business operations.
- Address highly complex, time-constrained M&A/D challenges spanning SAP data migration, dual-landscape operations, legal entity separation, and compliance controls .
- Balance speed of execution with Medtronic's quality, security, and regulatory standards throughout deal execution.
Leadership Without Authority
- Lead through deep expertise, credibility, and influence , not formal reporting relationships.
- Set architectural expectations for solution architects, functional leads, developers, and system integrators; review designs and outcomes for adherence to standards.
- Mentor and develop Principal and Senior-level architects across Global IT and partner organizations.
Executive Communication & Stakeholder Engagement
- Communicate architectural strategies, trade-offs, risks, and recommendations to IT leadership, Finance leaders, business executives, and Quality & Compliance partners .
- Represent SAP O2C and Finance architecture in governance forums, architecture review boards, and senior program discussions.
- Serve as a trusted advisor translating business transformation goals into pragmatic, executable SAP solutions and an advisor to MA&D leadership communicating architectural risks, options and trade-offs to IT & business stakeholders.
Requirements
This role is a senior individual contributor position, delivering impact through technical leadership, solution ownership, and cross-functional collaboration., * Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of relevant experience , or advanced degree with 8+ years , consistent with Senior Principal expectations.
- Demonstrated mastery of SAP Order-to-Cash and Finance architecture , including master data, pricing, billing, revenue recognition, and financial reporting.
- Proven experience architecting SAP solutions at scale in global, regulated environments with strong quality and compliance requirements.
- Extensive experience governing and influencing system integrators and delivery partners , holding them accountable for architectural quality and outcomes.
Nice to Have ( Preferred Qualifications)
- Experience leading large-scale SAP S/4HANA transformations , finance modernization, or global process standardization initiatives.
- Strong understanding of SAP roadmap and modern finance, analytics, and data platforms.
- Track record of enterprise-level influence without formal authority .
- Proven experience leading SAP architecture for Mergers, Acquisitions, and Divestitures in large, global, regulated enterprises.
- Demonstrated success supporting carve-outs, integrations, and data separations while maintaining financial integrity and compliance.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$152,800.00 - $229,200.00
This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
