Vice President of Software Engineering

CornerStone Technology Talent Services is partnering with a high-growth organization to identify a Vice President of Software Engineering to lead and scale a modern engineering function in Tempe, AZ. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments, enjoys building structure from complexity, and can elevate both technology and teams to the next level.

This is not a maintenance role - this is a build and transform opportunity. You'll step into an environment that has scaled quickly and now needs strong technical leadership to drive architectural consistency, reduce technical debt, and implement best-in-class engineering practices across the organization.

What You'll Own

• Lead and scale a growing engineering team from approximately 5-7 engineers to 10-15+
• Establish and drive enterprise architecture standards across cloud-native platforms
• Partner cross-functionally with leadership to align technology strategy with business objectives
• Evaluate and modernize existing systems, addressing technical debt and process gaps
• Champion adoption of modern tooling, automation, and AI-driven development practices
• Build a culture of accountability, performance, and continuous improvement
• Act as a key technical voice with executive leadership, including investor-level communication

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with 5+ years leading high-performing teams
• Proven success in regulated environments (healthcare, fintech, or government)
• Deep experience with enterprise systems, scalable architecture, and cloud platforms
• Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure
• Working knowledge of SOC2, HIPAA, or similar compliance frameworks
• Ability to balance strategic leadership with hands-on technical decision-making
• Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence at the executive level
