Job description
General Definition of Work: Performs intermediate technical work configuring, installing and maintaining networks, providing technical support and training to users, troubleshooting, installing, repairing and maintaining computer software, hardware and peripherals, installing and upgrading information systems, preparing and maintaining files and records, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Supervisor of Technology., * Supports and instructs users on how to use software; hardware and on how to find resources/access information
- Maintains division website and web server software; updates the division website; develops custom applications and programs; monitors web filter software
- Maintains servers software; upgrades operating system; backs up network data and information
- Installs, troubleshoots, repairs and maintains hardware, software and peripheral equipment
- Trains and supports all school administration employees on technical issues
- Troubleshoots and repairs various network specific problems; develops, tests and implements innovative ways to solve system problems; sets permissions on server for users/groups
- Maintains and configures email systems
- Helps configure routers and switches; installs hubs; monitors network resources
- Monitors web filter software; reacts to abuses on the web; documents and reports offenses; adjusts settings to sites as requested
- Maintains intranet website and software; develops custom internal applications as needed
- Supports third party software that is used by the school system
- Converts raw data into finished products including scan test keys, policy manuals, budget statement, digital photo rendering, etc.
Requirements
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires walking and occasionally requires standing; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data; work occasionally requires exposure to the risk of electrical shock; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
General knowledge of the operation, uses and capabilities of electronic data processing main and peripheral equipment; general knowledge of hardware and software procedures and techniques; general knowledge of network administration practices and techniques; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; ability to recognize and assess maintenance and repair needs; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and system users. Must have an Associate's/Technical degree with coursework in computer technology, or related field and moderate experience in the installation and maintenance of networked computer systems and related software applications, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Possession of CISCO network administrator certification is desirable. A valid driver's license in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required.
