Job description
This position is eligible for up to two days remote work per week., The System Administrator I is primarily responsible for the administration and maintenance of systems and network services (hardware and software) at Salve Regina University. In addition to supporting the existing network infrastructure and systems, the System Administrator will take a role in the implementation of server infrastructure., * Assist with identity management processes in Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Azure Active Directory, and Office 365, including account provisioning, group and mailbox creation, permissions and access assignments, and account cleanup and retirement.
- Assist in automating existing tasks and increasing overall team efficiency.
- Support, maintain, secure, and patch VMware ESXi/vSphere and Microsoft Windows server environments.
- Configuration, management, provisioning, and maintenance of file servers, storage area networks, direct attached storage, physical and virtual machines. Ensure proper backup of all data stored on these systems.
- Implement security best practices, hardening systems against vulnerabilities, collaborate with IT security team members on security audits and assessments, and respond to security incidents in a timely and effective manner., * Assist the Technology Services Center as tier 3 support for software management and policy deployment, using tools such as Microsoft InTune, Jamf Pro, PDQ, and Active Directory Group Policies.
- Assist in the implementation of network infrastructure equipment including switches, routers, firewall appliances, wireless controllers, and access points.
- Configure and maintain Windows DNS and Windows DHCP services, including hostname assignments and IP reservations.
- Collaborate with the Network Infrastructure, Enterprise Application, and Technology Services Center teams in addressing server-related problems and projects.
- Assist with cybersecurity, compliance, business continuity/disaster recovery, and other duties of the department.
- Monitor system performance, identify and resolve issues, ensuring system availability, reliability, and scalability. This may involve using monitoring tools to track system metrics and proactively address potential problems.
- Perform other department related duties as assigned.
LICENSES, TOOL, AND EQUIPMENT:
- Where possible, the incumbent will obtain hardware and software technical training to enhance his/her professional capability and capacity.
- Valid driver's license required.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent working knowledge of network operation systems and configurations required.
- 1-3 years of experience with Microsoft Windows Server and associated technologies, including Active Directory administration, in a dynamic and complex environment.
- Solid understanding of network troubleshooting skills
- Knowledge in the use of Microsoft PowerShell for configuration and automation of server management, task automation, identity management, and maintenance., * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Detail oriented
- Excellent oral and written communication skills at technical and non-technical levels.
- Ability to provide exemplary service to our end-users and proactively seek opportunities for service improvement
- Ability to maintain a positive attitude towards providing customer service and building relationships with users
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks with the ability to follow each to resolution

- Ability to provide reliable and dependable service during critical times of the University calendar, * 3+ years of experience with Microsoft Windows Server and associated technologies, including Active Directory administration, in a dynamic and complex environment.
- Preferred certifications can include Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Certification (e.g., MCSA, MCSE), or other related certifications.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365/Azure, VMware ESXi, Veeam Backup, HPE Storage, and other current technologies a plus.
- A deep understanding of configuring and managing complex systems. This may involve advanced configurations of operating systems, such as Windows Server, including kernel tuning, network configuration, file system management, and performance optimization.
- Advanced Proficiency in PowerShell and other scripting languages.
Benefits & conditions
The salary range for this position is $55,000-$62,500 per year.
