Job description

In the role of Enterprise Strategy Manager , you will be part of a project team that solves complex problems, develops long-range and short-term plans for Guardian, and partners with senior leaders to identify, develop, evaluate, prioritize, and deliver strategic initiatives across the organization. You will work closely with Guardian's Strategic Projects and Corporate Development teams, as well as senior leaders in the business units and corporate functions.

The role reports to Guardian's Head of Strategic Growth & Planning. This highly visible team is responsible for overall strategy development, executing cross-cutting strategic initiatives, and managing strategic planning processes across the enterprise.

You will have the opportunity to work on a range of high-visibility projects and strategic workstreams spanning across:

  • Strategy development - help define the strategic direction, with both near-term and long-term priorities for Guardian or specific business units. You will do this using research, analytics, logical problem solving, and strategic frameworks.
  • Strategic planning and monitoring - translate long-term strategic priorities into operational strategic planning processes, including the setting of Objectives & Key Results and the allocation of portfolio resources toward the most high-value projects. Monitor cascading metrics and goals for business areas aligned with strategic plan.
  • Execution of cross-cutting strategic initiatives - support cross-enterprise strategic efforts that are critical to Guardian's overall success. Support in managing the business performance of the initiatives (for example, implement and manage processes to monitor business performance metrics aligned with the strategic plan).
  • Strategic communications development - support the development and delivery of content for Guardian Leadership Team and Board of Directors, with a focus on strategic recommendations, progress, and priorities.
  • New initiative exploration - in collaboration with business areas, assess and develop business cases, market sizing, and external research to drive new ideas on innovation, partnerships, and areas of investment outside BAU.

To successfully deliver on these projects and workstreams, you will:

  • Utilize strategic frameworks to structure problem-solving and identify opportunities or issues
  • Structure and build quantitative and qualitative analyses of operational and financial data
  • Perform competitive and industry research
  • Identify implications of data and analysis
  • Develop concise written communication materials for senior management and present your findings in key meetings and working groups
  • Build trust with colleagues across Guardian, * Have exposure to, and play a role in shaping, the agendas of our key stakeholders
  • Develop expertise in a variety of functions and businesses across the company
  • Be mentored and coached by experienced leaders on problem solving, communications, and leadership skills

Requirements

  • An excellent generalist problem-solver who can break large, meaty questions into their component parts and use data, logic, and reason to come to a solution or recommendation
  • A strong analyst with proficiency in Excel and quantitative problem solving, in addition to qualitative research
  • An effective communicator (both written and oral)
  • A collaborative team player who can work effectively in cross-functional settings with business partners
  • A proactive and resourceful self-starter who can work independently and take initiative
  • Extremely organized; able to prioritize multiple tasks and competing deadlines
  • Detail oriented
  • Intellectually curious

You have:

  • Bachelor's degree from a top institution with strong academic performance
  • 5+ years of experience in roles related to strategy consulting or in-house strategy teams; experience at a top management consulting firm preferred but not required
  • Strong analytical toolkit; advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint

Benefits & conditions

The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. The salary for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. In addition to salary, this role may also be eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
