Job description
- Partner with engineering leadership, EMs, and Product Managers to define and deliver AI products across a broad set of user scenarios
- Architect scalable, high-performance systems that support a growing number of AI-powered products
- Drive technical strategy and make architectural decisions that compound - enabling the team to ship more AI experiences faster
- Own the engineering quality, reliability, and performance of AI products as complexity and scale increase
Own architectural direction across teams
- Define long-term backend and infrastructure architecture for major product initiatives.
- Ensure systems are designed for durability, scalability, observability, and cost efficiency.
- Identify architectural risks early and drive alignment on sustainable solutions.
- Partner with engineering leaders to evolve experimentation-heavy systems into platform-grade services., * Architect and contribute to large-scale, backend-heavy product systems end-to-end.
- Lead API and service design strategy across domains.
- Improve system performance (latency, throughput, load handling) and guide tooling decisions.
Elevate engineering standards
- Raise the bar in system design reviews across multiple teams.
- Drive adoption of infrastructure-as-code, automation, and cloud best practices.
- Improve incident response maturity and operational excellence.
- Mentor senior engineers and grow architectural capability across the org.
Enable strategic execution
- Balance reliability, scalability, and cost while modernizing and refactoring legacy systems.
- Provide clear architectural rationale to internal stakeholders and external partners.
- Evaluate and introduce modern infrastructure and backend tooling where appropriate.
- Help define platform capabilities that unlock future product velocity.
Requirements
- BS / BA college degree or relevant experience, * Have 10+ years of experience building and operating distributed systems in high-availability, customer-facing environments.
- Have architected and scaled large backend systems across multiple teams or product areas.
- Have deep expertise in distributed systems design (consistency models, fault tolerance, scaling patterns, observability).
- Have hands-on experience designing and scaling multi-region environments in AWS or GCP. Have strong experience with containerized systems (Kubernetes, EKS/GKE, ECS, etc.). Are fluent in infrastructure-as-code tooling such as Terraform or Pulumi.
- Have strong API and service architecture experience.
- Have led performance optimization efforts at scale.
- Are backend-leaning, but comfortable navigating full product stacks when necessary (TypeScript, Node, Go, etc.). Have demonstrated the ability to influence technical direction beyond your immediate team.
- Are known for thoughtful system design and pragmatic decision-making.
- Mentor senior engineers and elevate architectural thinking across an organization.

- The cash compensation for this role is tailored to align with the cost of labor in different geographic markets. We've structured the base pay ranges for this role into zones for our geographic markets, and the specific base pay within the range will be determined by the candidate's geographic location, job-related experience, knowledge, qualifications, and skills.
