Job description

St. Johns County is seeking a GIS Coordinator to support the Public Works Department by managing GIS operations, enhancing spatial data capabilities, and maintaining accurate geospatial information used across county projects and services. This role oversees GIS workflows, develops and maintains datasets, supports departmental mapping needs, and ensures high-quality spatial analysis and data integrity. The GIS Coordinator will collaborate with multiple county divisions and serve as a technical lead for Public Works GIS initiatives., Manage and maintain GIS datasets, applications, and mapping products for the Public Works Department. Perform spatial analysis, create maps, and develop GIS workflows to support department functions. Coordinate GIS data collection, field verification, quality control, and integration across divisions. Support staff with GIS tools, training, data requests, and technical troubleshooting. Develop and maintain documentation, metadata, and GIS best practices. Collaborate with internal and external partners to improve GIS systems, data accuracy, and interoperability. Assist with the implementation of GIS technologies, mobile data collection tools, dashboards, and web-based mapping.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Environmental Science, Computer Science, or related field. Three years of professional GIS experience, including spatial data management and analysis. Experience with ESRI ArcGIS products (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Enterprise). Strong understanding of cartography, geospatial analysis, and data quality principles. Ability to manage multiple projects, work independently, and communicate effectively.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with ArcGIS Online administration, geodatabases, GPS data collection, scripting (Python), and mobile GIS solutions. Prior work in the public sector, public works, or infrastructure-related GIS applications.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements: Standard office environment with occasional fieldwork. May involve lifting equipment up to 20 lbs, walking on uneven terrain, and working in varying weather conditions.
