Job description

This position works onsite and handle computer hardware inventory, provide system access to various local and state systems, and support users with various technologies. Learn more about working for DFS, our agency culture, and meet some of our employees online. Under general supervision, work with other technicians and analysts to provide agencywide support. Assists with PC/telecommunications maintenance and support, onboarding and offboarding of staff, network and application access support to customers, including the coordination of equipment inventory and distribution, and local and state application password resets. Manages and coordinates DFS IT tickets, providing technical guidance to staff with information technology issues. Assists with administering and maintenance of SharePoint sites and user access. Provides excellent customer service for staff. This position provides comprehensive IT support to all areas of the department and requires a consistent on-site presence to effectively meet operational needs. Due to the nature of the duties and the level of in-person support required, this role is not eligible for teleworking and is expected to work on-site five (5) days per week. Troubleshoots problems related to PC's and system hardware and software and reports findings to help desk and coordinates problem resolution with vendors as needed; Monitors network components for inventory purposes; Assists in installing, configuring, upgrading, moving, and administering PC, network/telecommunications systems and components; Loads and test computer software; Creates/updates icons; Relocates dumb terminals, printers, and reconnecting cables; Performs password and other various levels of security support on all network systems; Checks for computer viruses using appropriate software; Provides help desk and inventory control support; Collects data on system events and performance for reports and analysis.
Requirements
Some knowledge of communications protocol and standards; Some knowledge of personal computers and personal computer software application packages and development products; Some knowledge of personal computer and network/telecommunications architecture and equipment; Ability to communicate technical ideas clearly and effectively both orally and in writing; Ability to provide one-on-one training and support to computer users; Ability to perform personal computer, network/telecommunications system troubleshooting, both on software and hardware problems; Ability to implement or coordinate equipment repairs and solve software problems; Ability to read and interpret technical manuals used in the assembly, installation, repair, and operation of personal computers and data communications equipment; Ability to maintain records and write reports. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (Click on the aforementioned link to learn how Fairfax County interprets equivalencies for "Any combination, experience, and training equivalent to") Graduation from high school; plus either one year of specialized experience or two years of general experience in the installation and troubleshooting of personal computers, network/telecommunications systems; or possession of an associate's degree in computer science or related field. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and child protective services to the satisfaction of the employer. This role is not eligible for teleworking and is expected to work on-site five (5) days per week at various DFS locations. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience providing computer related customer support
- Experience managing systems access
- Experience managing IT equipment inventory
- Experience tracking work in a ticket management system
- Experience and proficiency using Microsoft Office software applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Ability to assist users in solving operational problems related to SharePoint.
- Knowledge of human services programs and policies.
- Excellent organization, multitasking and customer service skills, and strong verbal and written skills., Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
