Job description
The Data Center Support Technician is responsible for ensuring the secure and reliable operation of a data center facility. This role focuses on maintaining physical security, supporting customer needs, and monitoring critical infrastructure systems.
The technician serves as the primary point of contact for customer communications, handling service requests, managing tickets, and coordinating incident response. In addition, this role provides basic remote hands services and vendor escort support. Continuous monitoring of facility and IT systems is required to ensure optimal performance and rapid issue resolution.
This position requires flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays., * Oversee and maintain all physical security measures within the facility
- Monitor surveillance systems and manage access control processes
- Review and process site access requests in alignment with established policies
- Conduct routine walkthroughs and inspections of the data center
- Enforce security procedures and respond to any breaches or incidents
Customer Support
- Act as the main point of contact for customer inquiries via phone, email, and ticketing systems
- Manage service requests from intake through completion, ensuring timely updates and SLA compliance
- Coordinate with internal teams and technical specialists to resolve customer issues
- Provide escort services for vendors, contractors, and client personnel
- Perform basic remote hands tasks, such as equipment checks, reboots, and simple troubleshooting
- Handle escalations and support incident communication with customers
Monitoring & Operations
- Monitor the condition and performance of critical infrastructure systems through building management systems (Client) and physical inspections, including:
- Electrical/power systems
- Cooling and HVAC systems
- Fire detection and suppression systems
- Oversee the functionality of security systems, including cameras and access control
- Monitor IT systems such as servers and network equipment for alerts or failures
Incident Response
- Respond to operational or customer-impacting incidents and coordinate resolution efforts
- Dispatch appropriate vendors or internal resources as needed
- Escalate critical issues to leadership when required
- Communicate incident status updates and advisories to stakeholders
- Support recovery efforts and document all incident activity
Requirements
- Associate degree preferred, * Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Working knowledge of physical security systems and procedures
- Experience in customer service or operations support roles
- Basic understanding of IT systems; certifications are a plus or may be required, * Proficiency with common operating systems, including Windows and macOS
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment
- Self-directed with the ability to work independently or collaboratively
- Familiarity with data center operations and best practices is an advantage
