- Lead engineering teams and establish culture of accountability and high performance

Own technical architecture and platform strategy, with particular focus on data infrastructure

Build and scale data consortium platform that aggregates anonymized data across hundreds of credit unions

Own security and compliance, ensuring systems and processes meet regulatory requirements

Partner with CEO and product leadership on technical strategy and resource allocation

Work with founding engineer to evolve systems architecture and development practices

Make build vs. buy decisions and prioritize platform investments based on business impact

Hire, develop, and performance-manage engineering talent; make difficult staffing decisions when necessary

Review code, evaluate architectural proposals, and set technical standards across the organization

Lead CUCollaborate's engineering organization through its next phase of growth. This hands-on leadership role combines strategic technical direction with team management, owning our full technical operation including engineering teams, data infrastructure, product architecture, and security.

Work closely with our founding engineer to transition from founder-led development to systematically structured engineering practices while building the data platform that will serve thousands of credit unions.

The ideal candidate has deep technical expertise in backend systems and data architecture, proven ability to build high-performing teams through direct feedback and accountability, and genuine interest in expanding financial access through credit union technology.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Advanced degree preferred but not required.
- 10+ years in software engineering, including 5+ years leading multiple squads in a high-growth SaaS or product company
- Startup experience preferred but not required.
- Excellent communication skills, including direct communication and accountability
- Must be able to earntrust through clear reasoning, patience and technical expertise
- Candidates must genuinely care about expanding financial access through credit unions, not just seeking any Chief Technology Officer role
- US Eastern or Central Time Zone location
