Job description
The Principal System Support Specialist is responsible for providing advanced, proactive system administration and infrastructure support within data center environments. The role focuses on maintaining and improving system availability, performance, and security for critical infrastructure services supporting Business Units in the United States and globally. This position plays a key role in preventing outages, supporting operations, and ensuring infrastructure components meet defined standards and acceptance criteria., + Perform proactive maintenance and administration of computer hardware, software, operating systems, and operational tools to support IT service delivery.

Improve system availability through preventive actions aimed at avoiding outages and performance degradation.

Provide expert-level support for infrastructure services used by Operations, including operating systems such as Linux, HP-UX, and AIX .

Administer and support operations and monitoring tools such as HP Operations Manager / OpenView Operations and HP Insight Manager .

Collaborate with Project Management teams to ensure infrastructure components meet acceptance criteria and required quality standards before go-live.

Work closely with 1st and 3rd level support teams, maintaining strong professional relationships and effective escalation flows.

Participate actively in vulnerability management, risk management , and security-related initiatives.

Support automation initiatives and contribute through shell scripting and operational efficiency improvements.

Provide strong troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and performance optimization for complex system issues.

Support Business Units globally, ensuring systems are secure, stable, and available to meet business and customer needs.

Operate effectively under pressure during incidents or critical situations, ensuring timely resolution and communication.
Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent engineering experience.

5+ years of experience in Unix system administration and infrastructure support within data center environments.

Strong hands-on experience with:

UNIX/Linux operating systems (Linux, HP-UX, AIX)

Shell scripting and automation initiatives

Veritas VCS, Veritas Volume Manager, and Veritas File Systems

Knowledge of standard IT service management processes, including:

Problem Management

Change Management

Solid understanding of infrastructure monitoring and operations tools.

Strong technical troubleshooting and performance analysis skills.

Proven ability to work in global, enterprise-scale environments.
