Job description
This position requires access to customer data; Must be a U.S. citizen. SAP NS2 does not offer Visa sponsorship for this role. All internals must have manager's approval to transfer., We are seeking a Senior Linux & Java Systems Engineer to provide technical leadership and hands-on engineering support for secure, mission-critical enterprise systems operating in classified environments. This role requires deep expertise in Linux system administration, Java-based application support, middleware configuration, security hardening, and database integration.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience supporting full-system lifecycle operations, including installation, configuration, automation, security compliance, testing, documentation, and cross-team coordination within secure government or defense environments.
This position requires an active TS/SCI poly clearance . Must be able to work on site at Bolling periodically.
Key Responsibilities

Serve as technical lead for secure Linux-based enterprise application environments.

Install, configure, secure, and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems.
-
Engineer and support Java-based applications running on middleware platforms (e.g., JBoss/WildFly).
-
Implement and maintain SSL/TLS, X.509 certificates, encryption, and authentication integrations.
-
Perform firewall hardening, system auditing, and security compliance support.
-
Support database integration and replication environments (e.g., relational databases such as SAP ASE or similar platforms).
-
Develop and maintain shell scripts and automation tools for deployment and operations.
-
Support AWS-based infrastructure deployments and virtualized environments (VMware).
-
Implement and maintain logging frameworks (e.g., Log4j), monitoring, and troubleshooting processes.

Develop and execute automated testing and regression test suites.
-
Maintain version control processes using Git and support agile tracking tools (e.g., Jira).
-
Author and maintain installation guides, administrative documentation, and system security documentation.

Support accreditation and security compliance documentation (e.g., ICD 503 or equivalent frameworks).

Collaborate with cross-functional engineering and security teams to continuously improve system reliability and security posture.
Requirements

Active TS/SCI clearance with CI Polygraph (required).

Bachelor's degree and 19 years of relevant experience , OR
-
Master's degree and 17 years of relevant experience , OR
-
PhD and 15 years of relevant experience .

Extensive experience administering Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL 7/8 ).
-
Strong Java development and support experience.
-
Experience with application servers such as JBoss or WildFly.
-
Experience implementing SSL/TLS, PKI, and certificate-based authentication.

Experience with database integration and replication technologies.
-
Proficiency in shell scripting and Linux service management.
-
Experience supporting AWS-based environments.
-
Experience with Git and structured software lifecycle processes.
-
Strong technical documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications

CompTIA Security (or equivalent DoD 8570/8140 compliant certification).

Experience supporting secure or classified environments.

Experience with automated testing frameworks and build tools (e.g., Maven, ANT).

Experience with XML technologies (XSD, XSLT), REST APIs, and JSON.

Experience with system auditing and file integrity tools.
