Job description
Ruby on Rails Software Engineer - Financial Services
Strong opportunity to join a large, established financial services organisation undergoing a genuine engineering-led transformation. This is not maintenance work. You will be building and evolving a core mortgage platform that directly drives revenue and customer outcomes.
The role sits within a product-aligned engineering team responsible for mortgage origination and servicing systems. The environment is moving from Legacy towards modern cloud, SaaS/PaaS and DevOps-driven delivery, with a clear push towards autonomy, ownership and engineering standards.
What you will do
- Design, build and operate features across a Ruby on Rails-based mortgage platform (RoR, MySQL, JavaScript)
- Own delivery end-to-end: development, testing, deployment and production support
- Work in a product team alongside Product Owner and Engineering Manager, shaping how solutions are built
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and automation across environments
- Drive improvements in reliability, scalability and engineering practices
- Support security, monitoring, troubleshooting and risk controls in a regulated environment
What matters (this is the filter)
- Strong Ruby on Rails experience building applications and APIs
- Solid SQL/relational database experience (schema design, performance, querying)
- End-to-end engineering mindset (build + run, not just dev)
- Experience working in agile, DevOps-led environments with CI/CD
- Understanding of cloud platforms (Azure preferred)
- Ability to operate in a structured, regulated environment
Nice to have
- React or modern JavaScript frameworks
- Docker/Kubernetes exposure
- Financial services or mortgage platform experience
Package
- Competitive base + bonus
- Strong pension
- Private medical, income protection, life assurance
- Ongoing training and development
If you want a role where you actually own what you build, work on a system that matters, and operate in a modernising environment without startup risk, this is one of the cleaner options in the market.
Keywords Ruby on Rails, RoR, MySQL, SQL, JavaScript, React, API development, MVC, DevOps, CI/CD, Azure, Jenkins, GitLab, Docker, Kubernetes, Agile, Financial Services, Mortgages, Lending Systems
