Job description
As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will work on major, complex programmes, lead multidisciplinary engineering teams in delivering high-performance systems involving sensors, electronics, firmware, and software.
This is a hands-on leadership role, combining technical oversight, stakeholder engagement, and system-level responsibility from concept through to customer acceptance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead system design, development, integration, and acceptance activities
- Act as the technical authority across complex engineering projects
- Drive delivery of systems involving sensors, communications, and signal processing
- Provide technical leadership to multidisciplinary teams (hardware, software, firmware, mechanical)
- Conduct design reviews and ensure compliance with performance and customer requirements
- Collaborate with external stakeholders including government and industry partners
- Support project reporting alongside project management teams
- Contribute to research, innovation, and future system roadmaps
- Produce and present technical documentation, reports, and papers
- Support business development activities including technical proposals
- Mentor and develop junior engineers
- Promote continuous improvement and adoption of new technologies
Requirements
You will be a highly experienced systems engineer with a strong track record in complex engineering environments. Ideally, you will bring:
- Extensive experience in systems engineering within defence or a similar regulated industry
- Proven delivery of complex system design, integration, and testing (particularly in communications or sensor-based systems)
- Strong technical leadership experience within project teams
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to a wide range of stakeholders
- Experience working across the full engineering lifecycle
- A collaborative mindset with the ability to influence across teams and disciplines
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- The ability to work effectively under pressure and manage competing priorities, * Degree in Engineering (or equivalent experience)
- Eligibility to obtain UK DV security clearance
- Full UK driving licence
- Willingness to travel within the UK and occasionally internationally
