Job description

job summary: Core Tech Stack

Walmart is heavily invested in the Spring ecosystem and cloud-native architectures.

Primary Language: Java 17+ (Expertise in multithreading and JVM internals).

Frameworks: Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Hibernate.

Messaging/Streaming: Apache Kafka (high-volume event processing).

Databases: * NoSQL: Cassandra, MongoDB, or Cosmos DB.

Relational: PostgreSQL or MySQL.

Cloud & Infrastructure: Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Docker, Kubernetes.

CI/CD: Jenkins, GitHub Actions, and Spinnaker.

Emerging Tech: Integration of Generative AI and Agentic AI into backend services (using internal APIs/LLMs).

Key Responsibilities

Distributed Systems Design: Architecting and implementing scalable microservices that maintain low latency during peak traffic (like Black Friday/Cyber Monday).

API Development: Designing and maintaining RESTful and occasionally GraphQL APIs that serve web, mobile, and IoT platforms.

Data Modeling: Designing schemas for high-availability databases that can handle massive throughput with eventual consistency.

Operational Excellence: Owning the full lifecycle-from writing unit tests (JUnit/Mockito) to managing deployments and monitoring production health (Splunk, New Relic, or Prometheus).

Technical Leadership: Conducting code reviews, mentoring junior engineers, and driving "Shift-Left" testing practices.

Requirements & Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.

Experience: * Software Engineer: 3-5 years.

Senior/Staff Engineer: 7-10+ years.

Technical Depth: Strong grasp of Data Structures, Algorithms, and Design Patterns (Singleton, Factory, Circuit Breaker, etc.).

AI Proficiency: Experience with AI-powered tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) or building AI-enabled backend agents is increasingly listed as a preferred qualification.
