Job description

As a Senior Network Observability Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability and effectiveness of Visa's global network monitoring and management platforms. This role is focused on engineering, administering, and operating enterprise-grade network tools, rather than designing or operating the underlying network infrastructure.

You will work within a DevOps-oriented engineering team responsible for supporting 24x7 network observability capabilities across diverse business functions. Your work will directly impact network stability, incident prevention, and the ability of engineering and operations teams to diagnose and resolve issues quickly and accurately.

This is an opportunity for an engineer who enjoys deep technical ownership of tools, values operational excellence, and wants to work at global scale using a blend of commercial software and in-house engineering.

The Work Itself

In this role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day engineering and operation of network monitoring, management, and automation platforms, with an emphasis on commercial, off-the-shelf tooling., * Engineering, administering, and operating enterprise network monitoring and management platforms such as SevOne, ITNM/Netcool, and NetBrain

  • Performing tool-level configuration, customization, and troubleshooting to ensure accurate data collection, alerting, and analytics
  • Translating stakeholder requirements into monitoring logic, thresholds, KPIs, and event correlation within the tools
  • Tuning alerting and notifications to reduce noise and improve signal quality
  • Supporting root cause analysis by ensuring monitoring platforms are properly modeled and data is trustworthy
  • Integrating vendor tools with in-house automation and workflows to improve operational efficiency
  • Supporting configuration audits, compliance reporting, and operational readiness
  • Collaborating with network engineering, operations, and architecture teams to ensure tooling aligns with evolving infrastructure needs
  • Participating in on-call or operational support as required in a 24x7 environment

This role focuses on engineering and operating the tools themselves, not on primary network design or device configuration.

Requirements

2+ years of relevant work experience and a Bachelors degree, OR 5+ years of relevant work experience, * Experience with automation or scripting (e.g., Python, Ansible, Terraform)

  • Hands-on experience engineering, administering, or operating enterprise network monitoring or management platforms (e.g., SevOne, ITNM/Netcool, Netscout, NetBrain or similar)
  • Strong proficiency with Linux operating systems in production environments
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting monitoring data collection using SNMP, syslog, and related protocols
  • Demonstrated ability to perform tool-level troubleshooting, including data gaps, polling issues, modeling errors, or alerting inaccuracies
  • Experience working in 24x7 operational environments
  • Ability to collaborate across engineering, operations, and business teams to translate requirements into technical solutions

Nice to Have

  • Exposure to observability or telemetry technologies such as streaming telemetry or OpenTelemetry
  • Experience integrating monitoring platforms with cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform)
  • Familiarity with ITSM platforms for incident, problem, and change management
  • Experience working with internally developed tools alongside commercial vendor platforms
