Job description
- The Data Center Controls Engineering team is looking for exceptional individuals to join our Controls organization as a Controls Technician for Service & Construction of the Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring System (EPMS) within client data centers.

- The candidate will possess technical background and experience in installation, troubleshooting, operations and/or maintenance of field sensors, controllers, wiring, networking and programming associated with the industrial controls systems.
- The candidate may also have relevant experience operating and maintaining mission critical electrical and mechanical systems.
- A Controls Technician shall be responsible for participating in the installation, testing, troubleshooting and startup of equipment and controls system associated with the BMS and EPMS system deployment in the data centers.
- A Controls Technician is expected to actively innovate on behalf of their customers in the area of Data Center building automation
Typical Day in the Role:
- Core hours: 7am 3:30pm includes 30 min lunch
- 75% prescriptive tasks following runbooks with 15-20% commissioning support
- Their work spans from pre-construction verification through system provisioning and handoff to commissioning teams.
- Key responsibilities include verifying installations per client specifications, conducting point-to-point checkouts, provisioning proprietary control systems, and ensuring proper communication between all system components.
- The role requires travel between multiple data center sites within the same region, typically spending one full day per site.
Requirements
- Hands on Controls background at least 2 year experience
- preferred 3+ years (with wiring installation, testing systems, making adjusted, troubleshooting field devices )
- Familiarity with various sensor types
- Worked in medium to large company/setting
Nice to haves:
- Had VMS Hvac control experience
- BAS (building automation or BMS building management)
- Familiarity with Distech systems and MQTT protocols,
Disqualifiers:
- Electrician background
- Network or ID background (ex. Engineers, network tech)
Degree/certification:
- Diploma in controls or building automation
- Military experience doing controls + electracies works nice to have
- High school with 5+ years of hands-on controls experience working on panels
Previous experience:
- Worked as a controls tech in oil and gas systems
- Worked in a data center
Leadership Principles:
- Customer obsession
- Bias for action
Performance indicators:
- Shuttle between sites: provisioning devices in new data centers. Based on how many devises they provision in given month and how many sites they hit.
- Will be assigned trouble tickets monitor how many tickets they are completing
Top must-have hard skills:
- 2 years Controls background
