Job description

At Hymans Robertson, we've established a dedicated AI team to partner with teams across the firm and unlock the potential of AI in practical, meaningful ways. We're already delivering production AI solutions that streamline processes, enhance client experiences and augment colleagues' day-to-day work - and we're continuing to grow our capability at pace. We're looking for a Senior Developer / AI Engineer who can join us and hit the ground running: taking ownership of well-scoped AI engineering tasks, collaborating closely with others, and delivering high-quality, secure and measurable outcomes in a fast-paced, innovative environment. We invest in the latest technologies to support our ground-breaking solutions, including Microsoft Azure's AI platform and modern GenAI tooling. You'll work as part of a highly skilled team that values engineering excellence and uses an agile approach to software development. We are open to considering candidates on a part time or full-time basis What will your role look like? You'll help design, build, deliver and run world-class AI-enabled solutions across the firm. Day to day you will:

  • Work alongside high-performing, multi-disciplinary teams to turn real business problems into scalable AI-enabled products and features.
  • Be part of a DevOps culture that promotes autonomy, engineering excellence and continuous improvement, using modern tooling and practices.
  • Design and implement systems across a range of programming environments and platforms - primarily .NET and Microsoft Azure (including Foundry).
  • Build and iterate GenAI/LLM-powered features (such as copilots, assistants and automation), keeping a clear focus on measurable business outcomes.
  • Bring your experience across the full software development lifecycle - from shaping ideas through to secure, reliable production delivery.

Though this is a varied role, your key tasks will include:

  • Designing and delivering AI-enabled solutions and services that are secure, maintainable and built to scale.
  • Implementing retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) patterns - including chunking strategies, embeddings and vector search - to ground responses in firm knowledge.
  • Defining and running evaluation approaches (e.g., accuracy, grounding, toxicity, bias), and implementing guardrails, logging and monitoring to support production AI systems.
  • Applying prompt engineering and responsible AI practices, partnering with stakeholders to ensure data protection, security and compliance requirements are met.
  • Pragmatically assessing trade-offs and barriers in the delivery of significant software systems.
  • Leading non-functional improvement work (for example, performance profiling).
  • Driving innovation and increasing the maturity of frameworks, integrations and automations.
  • Mentoring and coaching less experienced team members., Please note, we recruit on a rolling basis so early applications are recommended to avoid disappointment.

Requirements

  • Hands-on AI engineering experience (or equivalent practical delivery experience).
  • Practical experience delivering solutions on Microsoft Azure's AI stack.
  • A strong engineering mindset with test-driven development practices.
  • Experience with .NET, Azure, APIs, microservices, DevOps and GenAI tooling.
  • Confidence working across the full software development lifecycle.
  • A collaborative, curious and proactive approach, with strong communication skills.
