Job description

job summary: Our West Michigan Client has a long term contract opportunity for a Network Engineer with Juniper experience. The is a remote role for candidates located in or near Michigan.

responsibilities: Description/Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and manage large enterprise level network solutions including routers, switches, firewalls, VPN's, load balancers, SD-WAN, wireless, data center fabrics, cellular backup, cloud etc.
  • Develop automated solutions to drive operational efficiencies.
  • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure optimal functionality and uptime.
  • Develop network standard operating procedures and templates.
  • Collaborate with other technology and security teams to integrate new technologies and enhance overall network security.
  • Lead network upgrade and migration projects ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.
  • Document network architecture, configurations, inventory and changes to maintain accurate records.
  • Provide mentorship and training to junior network engineers and other IT staff.
  • Stay current with industry trends, technologies and best practices to drive improvement and innovation.
  • Respond to network incidents and outages, implementing effective resolution strategies.
  • Conduct capacity planning and performance tuning to support business growth and scalability.
  • Maintain and update Agile story cards and incident tickets as required, ensuring accurate documentation of work progress, troubleshooting steps, and resolution details.

qualifications: Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CCNP, JNCP, CCIE, JNCIE, PCNSE, CWNA, Azure Network Engineer, GCP Professional Cloud Network Engineer, or equivalent experience.).

5 to 10 years of related experience in network engineering.

Experience with scripting languages and automation tools required (Python, Bash, Ansible, Terraform, etc.).

Experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD desired.

Juniper, cloud, and hybrid network architecture experience highly desired.

Knowledge of SDN (Software-Defined Networking) and related technologies.

In-depth knowledge of a broad range of network technologies is desired, including from among the following: Network Edge & Core Switching, SD-WAN, Firewalls, LAN/WLAN/WAN, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, TCP/IP, IPSEC, MP-BGP EVPN, Radius, TACACS, DNS/DHCP, Load Balancing, VPNs, Cloud Networking, Cellular backup, NAC, and structured cabling.

Hands-on experience with network hardware from major vendors (Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, Fortinet, etc.).

Strong understanding of network security practices and tools (firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, PCI, HIPAA, etc.).

Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Experience with network monitoring tools and performance analysis
