Job description

CGI Federal is seeking a motivated Entry Level Cloud Engineer to support the Division of Information Systems (DIS) under the Social Security Administration's Systems Operations & Hardware Engineering (SOHE) program.

DIS provides critical support in Unix/Linux administration, virtualization, server infrastructure, and enterprise systems operations, as part of the broader SOHE mission to ensure stable, secure, scalable IT operations for the agency., Support cloud infrastructure operations across SSA SOHE platforms, including provisioning, configuration, and monitoring of cloud services.

. Assist senior engineers in maintaining virtualized server environments, containerized workloads, and hybrid cloud integrations supporting DIS mission activities.

. Participate in troubleshooting efforts for cloud based applications, network connectivity, authentication, and system performance.

. Execute routine cloud maintenance tasks including patching, updates, and configuration drift corrections.

. Support documentation of cloud architectures, runbooks, standard operating procedures, and compliance artifacts.

. Help maintain security configurations and respond to security findings in accordance with SSA and CGI Federal policies.

. Contribute to migration efforts from on premise to cloud or hybrid cloud services under guidance from senior staff.

. Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams across SOHE divisions-including DBOPC, DCSI, DITM, DNE, and others-during integrated operations.

Requirements

This entry level role is ideal for an early career technologist with foundational cloud skills, strong curiosity, and a desire to grow within enterprise-scale federal environments., Ability to obtain and maintain public trust

. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related technical field; or equivalent practical experience.

. Foundational knowledge of AWS, Azure, or other major cloud platforms (coursework, labs, or certification prep acceptable).

. Basic understanding of virtualization concepts (VMware, Hyper V, KVM) and Linux/Windows server administration.

. Familiarity with networking fundamentals (VPCs, subnets, routing, firewalls, load balancers).

. Exposure to scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell.

. Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem solving skills.

. Ability to work as part of a collaborative, fast moving engineering team.

Desired qualifications/non-essential skills required:

. Hands on lab or internship experience with cloud deployments or DevOps tools (Git, Jenkins, Ansible, Terraform).

. Introductory certifications such as AWS Cloud Practitioner, Azure Fundamentals, or CompTIA Cloud+.

. Understanding of enterprise IT operations, monitoring tools, or ITIL concepts., * Analytical Thinking

The determination of this range includes various factors not limited to skill set, level, experience, relevant training, and licensure and certifications. To support the ability to reward for merit-based performance, CGI typically does not hire individuals at or near the top of the range for their role. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range for this role in the U.S. is $56,600.00 - $139,300.00.
