Job description
We are seeking motivated and dependable Cable Technicians to support a long-term, large-scale data center construction project in Mesa, AZ. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity with steady work, strong project longevity (3+ years), and opportunities for growth within a new technical team. Technicians will support structured cabling installations within an industrial data center environment, working primarily indoors with some exposure to outdoor and limited-climate-control areas.
Responsibilities
- Install, route, support, and secure CAT5 and CAT6 low-voltage cabling
- Pull, dress, label, and terminate cables (RJ45, fiber where applicable)
- Install cable support systems including J-hooks, D-rings, cable tray, trapeze, and strut
- Build and install telecom closets (racks, patch panels, backboards, cross-connects)
- Perform basic fire-stopping procedures and sleeve/core penetrations
- Install and ground racks, equipment, and cabling per standards
- Terminate low-voltage devices and assist with testing/troubleshooting
- Accurately complete timesheets, work orders, material transfers, and documentation
- Adhere to all safety, quality, and job-site requirements
- Work at heights using ladders and scissor lifts as required
Requirements
- 2-4 years of structured cabling or low-voltage experience
- (Trade school graduates considered)
- Experience supporting data center or large-scale commercial projects preferred
- Knowledge of:
- CAT5/CAT6 cabling
- Color codes and terminations
- Cable pulling and routing
- Rack and stack
- Fiber optics (installation or exposure preferred)
- Comfortable working in fast-paced construction environments
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and coachability
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to stand/walk 10-12 hours per day, up to 50-60 hours/week
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and move up to 75 lbs
- Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces
- Ability to distinguish colors, read small print, and recognize audible signals
- Indoor/outdoor commercial data center work with limited HVAC during early project phases
- High walking volume - comfortable insoles strongly recommended, * High School diploma or GED
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to learn quickly
- Basic construction knowledge preferred
- Ability to meet minimum driving standards (preferred)
- Drug screening required
