Job description

We are looking for a Senior Power Systems Consultant or lead Power Systems Consultant to join Grid Software's Power Technologies International (PTI) team. In this dynamic position you will conduct large-scale power system studies and simulations, directly supporting electric grid planning and the reliable integration of renewable energy resources, battery storage solutions, and significant large loads into the grid for a diverse portfolio of clients, including leading renewable developers, power producers, independent system operators (ISOs), and transmission providers.

This role is fully remote and based in the contiguous United States. It offers an exceptional opportunity for growth, leadership, and tangible impact on the energy transition.

Responsibilities

Conduct in-depth power system studies: steady-state/power flow analysis, short-circuit studies, transient stability analysis, and EMT simulation to evaluate reliable integration of renewable , battery energy storage, and large loads.

Develop comprehensive technical reports: prepare detailed written reports that clearly articulate study scope, assumptions, methodologies, conclusions, and actionable recommendations.

Ensure project success through effective communication: collaborate closely with project managers and study teams, proactively communicate scope and status, and deliver high-quality work on time and within budget.

Drive efficiency through innovation: develop automation scripts and tools to enhance the speed, accuracy, and reliability of simulations and analyses.

Lead complex power system projects: independently perform studies, lead and coordinate small project teams, and ensure the highest quality deliverables are achieved within project timelines and budgetary constraints.

Provide technical mentorship and thought leadership: share expertise, guide junior colleagues, and foster a culture of continuous learning and knowledge transfer within the team.

Requirements

Educational foundation: a master's degree in electrical engineering with a focus on power systems is required; a Ph.D. is highly desirable.

Professional experience:

Senior: minimum 5 years of professional experience in the electric power industry, gained from consulting, utilities, developers, ISO/RTOs, or labs.

Lead: minimum 8 years of professional experience in the electric power industry, gained from consulting, utilities, developers, ISO/RTOs, or labs.

Note: an advanced degree, e.g., MS or PhD, can substitute 1-2 years of experience.

Technical proficiency in power system analysis: extensive and proven expertise in transmission planning and/or operations, generator modeling, and generator interconnection studies, with experience in multiple tools including PSS®E, TARA, PSLF, PSCAD, ASPEN, and others. Python experience is a plus.

Ability to travel 5% domestically each year.

Qualifications

Progressive experience working in a power system consulting environment, demonstrating client-facing skills and project delivery expertise.

Extensive and proven experience performing and interpreting complex power flow/steady-state analysis, dynamic stability, EMT studies, and short-circuit studies.

Proven experience developing scripts (e.g., Python, MATLAB) to automate the execution, post-processing, and analysis of power system simulations, enhancing efficiency and accuracy.

Strong working knowledge of NERC reliability standards (such as TPL or MOD series) and regional entity planning guides and model quality requirements for interconnection.

Deep understanding of dynamic models and control logic; experience building and tuning dynamic parameters in PSSE or PSCAD is highly .

Benefits & conditions

$83,966 - $175,644 (10% bonus potential).
