Job description

We are seeking a skilled Software Engineer specializing in Atlassian Administration to join our team. This role is responsible for the configuration, support, and continuous improvement of our Atlassian tool suite (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket and related Marketplace apps). The ideal candidate will combine strong technical expertise with a passion for enabling engineering and program management teams through scalable, secure, and efficient solutions., * User Management: Manage user permissions and maintain group access controls.

  • Basic Configuration: Create and modify Jira projects, Confluence spaces, and basic workflows based on team requirements.
  • Support & Troubleshooting: Resolve Tier 1 support tickets related to access, project issues, and simple JQL (Jira Query Language) filters, assess and resolve bugs/breakages with IT cooperation.
  • Solution Design: Consult with business units to translate their unique requirements into scalable Jira projects and Confluence space architectures.
  • Advanced Automation: Design and maintain complex automation rules using Atlassian Automation and ScriptRunner (Groovy) to streamline cross-functional workflows.
  • Dashboards & Reporting: Assist teams in setting up boards (Scrum/Kanban), dashboards, and routine reports to track project progress.
  • Documentation: Maintain internal "how-to" guides and system documentation for end-users.
  • System Governance: Establish and enforce platform-wide standards for issue types, custom fields, and naming conventions to prevent configuration sprawl.
  • Performance & Security: Conduct regular audits of user permissions, license utilization, and system performance; manage Atlassian Marketplace app lifecycles and security reviews.
  • Mentorship: Provide guidance and escalation support to junior administrators or power users.
  • System Maintenance: Assist senior admins with routine cleanup (archiving old projects) and testing new Marketplace apps or updates in sandbox environments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 2 years of experience in software engineering OR a Master's degree in a (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 0 years of experience in software engineering
  • Experience with Atlassian applications
  • Experience with Linux, basic commands, navigation , ssh, etc.
  • Knowledge implementing software and scripts in one or more Object Oriented Programming languages: C, C++, C#, Java, or Python
  • Understanding of Agile, Scrum, and DevOps workflows
  • Active U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance with the ability to obtain (and maintain) special program access (PAR) prior to commencement of employment., * 3+ years of hands-on administration experience with Jira and Confluence in a medium-to-large enterprise environment.
  • Atlassian Certified Professional (ACP) certifications
  • Proficiency with SQL, JQL, and automation rules (e.g., ScriptRunner/Groovy, Python, or API integrations)
  • Proficiency in managing User Permissions, custom workflows, schemes (permissions, notification, security), custom fields, and screens.
  • Experience with REST APIs for integration and automation tasks.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills for creating user guides and technical documentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, especially in troubleshooting Tier 1/2 support issues.
  • Ability to consult with business units and translate requirements into scalable Atlassian solutions.
  • Experience with sandbox testing, system upgrades, and app lifecycle management.
  • Knowledge of platform governance, including standardization of issue types, custom fields, and naming conventions.
  • Knowledge with Software Change Control, Change Management, and CI/CD tools and methodologies.
  • Knowledge with one of the following metric tools: Tableau, Power BI.

Benefits & conditions

Primary Level Salary Range: $79,300.00 - $118,900.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
