Job description

The CoLP Fingerprint Bureau delivers an excellent, efficient service in all aspects of friction ridge detail work. They conduct analysis, comparison, evaluation and verification of finger, palm and plantar prints in connection with all levels of crime. Their work includes both proof of contact and proof of identity, bringing offenders to justice by supporting the wider judicial and coronial systems., You will assist technical and quality staff in their daily duties, providing a vital support function to all aspects of the business. Acting as the single point of contact between officers and Forensic Services, you will oversee the submission of evidence to external service providers. You will deal with procurement and attend regular finance meeting to monitor our budgets and ensure timely payments to all our providers. Working within an accredited environment, you will learn many processes that support our operational teams, with exposure to the Fingerprint, Lab and CSI disciplines, that may assist in progression to a technical area of your choice in the future., In this role, you will:

  • Provide professional, efficient and effective fingerprint examination provision to the City of London Police and external agencies.
  • Provide administrative support to practitioners within Forensic Services as and when required.
  • Manage the process of external Forensic case submissions (incl Digital Forensics) to accredited external Forensic Providers.
  • Administer financial spreadsheets relating to budgetary activities undertaken by Forensic services or for which they are responsible. To include raising Purchase Orders where necessary and to liaise with Finance teams regarding the payment of invoices.
  • Comply with internal processes and procedures relating to ISO standards and the Forensic Science Regulator's Code of Practice.

Requirements

  • Excellent planning and organisational skills, with an eye for detail as you will generally be required to manage your own workload whilst maintaining the high technical standards required by the department.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in order to generate reports, communicate via email and verbally liaise with officers up to a senior level.
  • Excellent IT skills (word processing, spreadsheets, E-mail, databases). The post holder will be required to generate documents and reports in WORD format, maintain various spreadsheets in EXCEL format and maintain information on various databases including PNC, Ident1, NICHE, Case Management Systems and Home Office registers.
