SAP CO Consultant

An international organisation is seeking a senior SAP Controlling (CO) specialist to join a global transformation programme on a 12-month freelance contract. This is a dedicated programme role with a primary focus on SAP Controlling design, optimisation, and delivery across a complex global finance environment.

Candidates based in the Netherlands, Spain, or Romania will be given priority consideration.

The Opportunity This is a senior-level Controlling role focused on solution design, process optimisation, and global standardisation of SAP CO processes. You will act as a key functional expert for SAP Controlling, supporting the design and enhancement of cost and profitability structures across multiple business units. The role requires strong analytical capability, deep Controlling expertise, and the ability to translate business requirements into structured SAP solutions.

Key Responsibilities SAP CO Design & Configuration Lead design and configuration of core SAP CO processes including: Cost Center Accounting (CCA) Internal Orders Profit Center Accounting Product Costing Profitability Analysis (CO-PA) Overhead Cost Controlling Design and optimise allocation cycles (assessment and distribution) Maintain and structure cost elements, cost centres, and profit centre hierarchies Drive improvements in month-end closing processes within CO

Profitability & Cost Management Translate business requirements into structured controlling models Design contribution margin and profitability reporting structures Improve cost transparency across business units Develop cost driver logic to support operational performance analysis Enhance management reporting through improved controlling design Cross-Functional Integration Ensure strong integration between FI and CO processes Support integration with operational areas such as inventory, production, and sales Improve end-to-end visibility of cost flows across the organisation Support governance of controlling master data and standards

7+ years SAP Controlling (CO) experience Strong hands-on configuration and design experience within SAP CO Deep expertise in: Cost Center Accounting Internal Orders Product Costing Profitability Analysis (CO-PA) Allocation cycles and cost structures Proven experience leading blueprinting and fit-gap workshops Strong stakeholder management in international environments Ability to translate business requirements into structured SAP solutions

Desirable Experience working within SAP transformation programmes Exposure to manufacturing, supply chain, or complex operational cost environments Strong understanding of finance and accounting principles
